Pitino is my last choice at the moment. His resume isn't impressive at all yet.

I was gonna say Stan Van Gundy, but I didn't realize he was coaching the Pistons this year..But there's a reason he's 7/m a year.

Any thoughts on the Valpro coach. Seems young with a lot of upside.

He'd be good. He did go to Valpo though if I remember correctly. Maybe a raise and a big time school name would swing him over here.

One other name that may have been discussed earlier who may have interest is TR Dunn. Coaching with the Rockets now. Has he ever showed interest in coming back to the college game?

He is young and does have a lot of upside. Negatives: he went to Valparaiso High School in Valparaiso, Indiana. Then he played for head coach Homer Drew (his dad) at Valparaiso University. After playing b'ball professionally for a few years he went to be an assistant coach at Valparaiso before becoming the head coach when his dad retired. Being the HC at Valpo seems like this guy's dream.

In the course of a few hours we went from looking at potential Final Four runs to trying to find someone who has enough upside to get us in the tournament.

It's not that bad. Being rejected is going to sting, but we move on. Now if we hire a shite coach, then I'll melt.

I think right now, basically everyone is expecting to be very disappointed with this hire. We're basically the opposite of what we were yesterday. Only time will tell, but I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

I'd rather take a chance with Acuff (UAH) .

Nobody would be saying our guys couldn't shoot if he was our coach.

Definitely could recruit North Alabama too. (as well as anywhere. Kids love him.)

I'm not a fan of hiring Prohm at the moment. I will admit that it would seem nice to have a Bama guy be the head coach, but that just doesn't really work out all that often.

Our last two fired coaches were:

1. A Bama guy who was an up-and-comer at Murray State; and
2. A guy who had success at VCU in a limited timeframe.

Now with Smart and Prohm seemingly at the top of our list...it's like deja vu.

then I say bring Prohm. He's a good coach and would do well here. While not a "homerun" he is a very solid hire
Prohm would be a disaster of a hire.

I'd rather give the job to Pettway than Prohm.

My hope now is that there was a silver lining last night and somewhere there was a really good coach who called his agent and said "Look at what Alabama offered Marshall. Let's talk to them." Of course they also know they can use that to get a raise from their current school.

I'm kind of at this point now: We're not hiring a top shelf guy. The gamechanging coach we've all been hoping for isn't coming. So we're going to have to change the game ourselves. Let's say we hire Archie, Prohm, or even Bucky McMillan. It doesn't matter who it is because if we're truly committed to taking our program to the next level, we need to prove it. Give the new coach absolutely everything they want. New arena. New jet. The highest paid support staff. A helicopter. I don't care. That way we prove to the rest of the basketball world that we're truly serious and if this hire doesn't work out, the next Gregg Marshall knows we're not messing around. Its one thing for Battle to lay out tons of proposals and plans, but in the end it still takes a leap of faith to believe that.

UA should go forward with their commitment to raise the level of the basketball program. Who the coach is shouldn't make a difference.
