Tbh guys this is just what we are going to have to do. Maybe he is a diamond in the rough. Like the CB from Mercer.. maybe these guys given the opportunity and level of play will reveal some true dogs.

Maybe we are familiar with all of these players and have deemed a certain value to them. And we are sticking to our guns. Interesting strategy

Like Smothers was enrolled but if you look at any of his social media….its garbage and he was always chasing bags. With that being said…. I don’t blame them. Him and his fam sound like douches though

Which begs the question, why, if you're supposedly focused on getting the right guys into the program, are you offering large sums of our apparently very limited NIL money to people like Smothers and Coleman?

I think we should just wait more guys will be in the portal. Especially after the championship

I’m sure but you’d figure Oregon could afford anyone. Bama should have some cash to spend after today’s announcements.

Maybe there's a reason Oregon's not ponying up the cash to retain them. They're not productive enough or Oregon's going to upgrade at their positions. Who knows?

Something I heard from a church friend here in Ttown: Evidently Formby to A&M has been in the works since November. Son of my friend was a classmate at Northridge, and they had all heard this was coming a couple of months ago. Said nobody believed the million plus number discussed until this past week. Just thought it was an interesting peek behind the curtain of how all this mess is going down.

I know they made just one portal time, but a guy can still transfer after the Spring semester, right?

I dont think Jones is just a depth piece. He missed a lot of games but he somehow finds a way to start for Miss St and UNC the last 2 seasons. He is a slim 320 though.

Yesterday all I was seeing was folks on here saying that we need to do what Indiana has done and go get a bunch of no named older guys with something to prove. The staff goes and does just that, now everyone is complaining about it. What’s the problem? He’s old, he’s experienced, and he probably didn’t cost much. James Smith probably cost 4 times what this guy costs and the production is not really that much different honestly

4 years
40 tackles 0 sacks
Vs
3 years
26 tackles 3 1/2 sacks
If the top guy is 4times cheaper, who you taking?

If their name is entered into the portal by the 16th they can transfer to a new team whenever they want. I can't imagine a player staying in the portal and still being allowed to go through spring practice though.

A player can transfer after the portal closes, but he won’t be eligible.

Just as an example: let’s lay the Bama QB starter is pretty obvious coming out of Spring practice. What can the guy who came in 2nd do at that point if he wants to go find a starting job?

Is that the old one year sitting out rule? Seems like a matter of time before someone sues over that.

Only Indiana and Miami players can be in the portal from Jan 20-24 and most of Indiana’s roster are 6th year seniors so they’re gone.

Correction: players can stay in the portal for however long they want as long as they’re in by 1/16

Frick this gay earth

Option 1: Stay and be the backup, hope he gets some playing time to showcase his talents to prospective teams, and hit the portal in January.

Option 2: Stay and be the backup but refuse to play in more than 4 games to preserve an extra year of eligibility and hope his coach is OK with it.

Option 3: Declare intention to enter the portal in January and sit out the season to preserve eligibility.

I mean we know how good our defensive guys in the portal are but we’re not trying to retain any of them apparently.

True, so that obviously means we don't think they're worth what they're demanding to be paid. Money is more of an object to us than it is to Oregon. If they can't find anyone that exceeds the max we offered them, we'd probably take them back. I'd imagine.
