Bryce Young only didn't win a natty because his entire skill position group he started the season with died on the football field over the course of the season.

Have you been paying attention to the post season in the last several years? Not a single first year starter has made the semifinals the past 2 years and a 1st year starter hasn’t won the NC since Mac Jones in 2020…and he had the GOAT coach, was a 4th yr player IIRC, had a massive amount of talent around him that will never happen again in this new NIL/Portal era, etc., etc.
I’m rooting for our young QBs, but expecting them to do something that no one else has been able to do now that the game has changed is just setting them, DeBoer, and yourself up for disappointment.

“Ever” is certainly a long time, but I agree with your sentiment. I’m even referring to 2nd and 3rd year players who are starting for the 1st year.

The game has changed dramatically since BY was on the sidelines, and BY had the GOAT coach. Not a great data point supporting the potential success of a 1st year starter.

Nah, I’ve spent lots of time and money at the University over the years. It’s my team and I’ll watch even if I know we have virtually zero chance at winning a Natty and likely will exit in the 1st two rounds if we make the playoffs. Win 1 playoff game and I will consider it a success next year and hope we can return whoever started at QB, so we aren’t going 3 straight years with 1st year starters.
