Man this portal has been very harsh on us.

Keeley had 3 sacks last yr. Renaud has posted half a sack in 3 seasons. When Overton was out Keeley should've been first man up instead of Renaud.

They need to add a coding system to the Portal Process
1-Player was asked to find another school
2-Player found another school paying more and the current school wouldn't
3-same as 2 but the current school was unable to match the new salary
4-Ham sandwich

So we have a transfer who was just a guy by memory (Henry) and a bunch of freshmen?
I'm torn because basically only Keenan, Simmons, and Overton moved the meter for me amongst our purely down linemen types in 2025. Everyone else would make a play every so often but not consistently. And down the stretch, they our front got pushed around a lot.
So I don't feel like we've lost as much as some imagine. However, you hate looking at a SDE depth chart slot and seeing our predicament.

No matter who was on our front, we didn't stand up anybody. Add in our poor ILB play yet we got to 11 wins.

The big question is "who is stepping up and/or who are we signing" because we have holes on the DL.

Makes it really tough to build a team with year to year depth and continuity. Another reason you’ll never see a coach replicate what Saban was able to.
It’ll be interesting to see why he entered the portal…money or someone coming in, etc.

Source on another site says he was working the phones trying to find another gig while wanting to keep his slot at Bama if he failed.
F him

This, lol
It ain’t any wonder why we sucked butthole vs Indiana. All these boys already had a foot out the door. I have been wishing them all well, but I hope they all fail miserably, and get benched at their next stops. Greedy pieces of crap

They and their hand out parent don't give a shite about the school they are playing for. It is all Ben Franklin.
Think of the numbers we might have still on our roster that just couldn't get a better deal and stayed.

The bigger issue I think people are underestimating is that players want to be “full time starters” and not come out the game unless they are injured or gassed. The idea of playing 3 guys to stay “fresh” meant that Overton/Keeley/Renaud all had to split up the reps.
I know players want “tape” and production numbers in hopes of playing at the NFL level.
I think this staff rotates the Dline and even the Oline more than most teams do (I’ve never seen an Oline rotate consistently until this year).
Also, Dline guys especially don’t want to be taken out on third down or in obvious passing situations. In Saban’s (and even Kirby) heyday Gary Danielson would have a convulsion everytime Bama would run 4 Dlineman on the field to stop the run on early downs, then turn around and bring on 4 pass rushers on third down.
I think a lot of players are not okay with being used that way anymore, even if what is most advantageous to the team.
There are so many quality DLineman from good programs who are in the Portal, and I think a lot of them (who weren’t processed) are wanting to prove to the NFL that they are “every down players” instead of being labeled a “situational player”.
My best guess, would be that Renaud thought with Overton and Keeley gone, that he would get a certain % of the snaps and the staff wouldn’t guarantee it.
What else would make sense?
No way he is being offered a bag

Besides depth, what did we lose with Renaud leaving ? He was decent to good but not a true game changer. All we can do is trust the staff to replace him with someone better.
Lol damn, our very last scholarship D lineman could announce he's transferring and the reaction here would just be a bunch of "he only had one sack," "not a key piece," "Indiana has shown that we need PRODUCTION, not potential," "well, bye (gif)" stuff.
But, OTOH, we do have Freddie, so I guess I kind of get the what's there to worry about sentiment.

We had maybe one guy who was over 300 pounds on the line and yet we would come out with just 3 lineman.
Posted on 1/13/26 at 6:36 pm to Cover1Key
Yeah, that probably does play into it a lot.

I think the conundrum is both perspectives are true in part. Our DL was not really impressive in 2025 so it can’t get worse right? Maybe it can but it’s not like we’re losing killers.
