I think a lot of it is, we have no one to compare him to historically at Bama. His position didn't exist 5 years ago.
Not defending him, I think he could do better with all the talking he does. Really hard to tell what level credit/blame to assign to him.

Why should he? Considering our budget is limited he has pulled in great talent from High School and the Transfer Portal.
We don't have as much money as OSU, Michigan, Oregon, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, etc...
Yet we are doing our best with the budget we have. Some reality needs to set where people realize these other schools have billionaires (multiple) who pull up a drop a war chest to buy a championship and we don't exactly have that.
Considering what we have we are doing well in recruitment.
Same goes for Nate Oats. They are trying but when BYU can just buy the player who wanted to play for Oats? When other teams can just outspend us?
Well that's why we aren't undefeated in basketball with our greatest team right now. Literally

Ross signed with LSWho?.

Assemble the best team we can. Hope it’s enough to make the playoff. If we can get hot, you can win. Just like the NFL.

We've obviously been outbid. It's mainly about the money offer more than anything else sadly.
I think it's quite obvious LSU has some big financial backers who are putting some heavy money behind their already significant investment to get rid of BK and sign Lane.
Do we have such?
Last I checked Byrne was hat in hand begging fans whom got angry at him for daring to try. We have fans on here who mock the idea of giving but have demands for the team they need on their own lives lol.
Until something creates balance the university's with billionaire supporters interested in football are going to rotate winning

LSU has $6M that just came back to them from the UW QB situation to spend and has to rebuild their roster comprehensively.

I thought a lot of indianas team was JMU players and a cal transfer.
Guess we will see. I think it’s just hit or miss from here on out. Just like the nfl

Which is also why we sure as hell need all the right coaches in place.
If we're gonna be limited with NIL, we can't afford to also have a bad or mediocre coach at any position. Frankly, right now we don't. Hopefully, we will see some changes after the portal.

Did we get a chance to bid? I am sure we had an offer planned for his visit he was supposed to take today but didn’t come
Same for Peak. It was rumored he wanted to stay close to home so he signed with USCe without giving us a chance. Not saying it’s true for Ross but some have other reasons for signing

I’ve been pretty underwhelmed by our portal additions prior to this year. We will see how they turn out.
Courtney didn’t help build Michigan this way and of course, I don’t think we have a system to cheat like Michigan did either

LSU has Gordon PI lawyer and Canes are two biggest boosters. Gordon is responsible for a lot of this and is heavily involved. They pretty consistently outspend Alabama and did last portal cycle.

Bama is just another fish in the sea in today's college football.
A trophy case next to none but the recruiting pool doesn't care about trophies.
Ben Franklin is the goal.

All these players have agents. Any good agent would at least see what a school was planning to offer before advising their client to sign elsewhere.
Even if the players didn't visit Bama, I'm sure their agents were in touch with Morgan getting a feel for what the offer was going to be.

Don’t know whose feelings I hurt but this is true. LSU was 4th in spending last year, Bama was 7th. They outspent bama by about 5 million

I don't think we were ever really in it with Ross. Spending big money on edge is a bit silly considering where the pressing needs are right now. I feel like We've got two good edge players right now and two guys you're confident in is about all you can ask for in this era.
I'm telling you, Ross posted that insta of him as a child in a Bama t-shirt to get the LSU money side to panic and make a Strong arse Offer.

I know he is involved heavily in the NIL stuff but I don’t think Gordon is worth that much
But that Kanes guy is one of the richest people in the country. He’s definitely funding a substantial portion of their NIL. Interestingly enough he went to UGA not LSU. But he’s Louisiana born and bred

If Pierre declares for the draft, edge is a pressing need.

Amazing what serving horrible chicken tenders and fries can do for your bank account.

Bama is #6 or 7 in NIL/revenue share. Multiple people who you have heard of that are "in the know" (well-known Board mods) have confirmed this.
The philosophy isn't to overspend on any one guy in the portal. We take the opposite method of Texas Tech, for example. Roster retention of guys we want to keep has been a big focus (despite how it appears with a couple guys).
Should we match South Carolina for Peak? I don't know. I'm not shilling for the staff or saying this is the best philosophy. I'm just telling you that this is what they're doing. For better or worse.
I will say... they'd better figure both sides of the line of scrimmage out (both in terms of coaching and talent) or this won't end well for them.
