Why was Grubb such a hot name for the last how many ever years? Genuine question. I always just took the hype as gospel. Did he just lose his mojo when he went to the NFL or something?
He didn't lose mojo. Nick Saban wanted Grubb with every part of his being.
Grubb also led Geno Smith to 10 wins. Geno. Smith.

Mandrell (a DT) is a beast

To answer both. Just because a coach is hot doesn’t mean he’s worth his weight. Take Penix away and he’s just human. Apllewhite could win with Penix. Before Saban people thought rich Rodriguez was a hot name. That’s laughable.
I understand he’s not a run first. He’s not a run at all!!!!!! His offensive line is always undersized and can NOT get to the second level and of a defense. If he doesn’t have a heismqn winner under him he will never win anything to note. In fact on the biggest levels what has he ever done of note???

There is none better than Saban. But let’s don’t pretend he was crushing coordinator hires post 2020. Just stop.

Rico Scott is back with Alabama.

Yes because the best ones were turning him down.
Remind us what Grubb did again which led to so much anger people here starting insulting the man's wife??

Okay so take away a QB who can actually execute his offense and he is just human? Yeah like every other great coordinator.
Take away Mendoza and Cignetti isn't getting praises on here like he's prime Saban after winning his second big game in the 64 years he has had on this planet.

Just like this forums favorite Curt Cignetti. Does that mean Cig isn't a good coach??

Didn’t insult the man’s wife: couldn’t care less about his wife. I don’t care for his offense. It’s putrid: without a championship qb he can’t do anything. Go back and look at some of the route trees he had when we needed less than 5 yards and r when a blitz was coming. ZERO hot routes. He has no feel for the game. Hes a NAIA champion.

Now we just need to reel Keeley back in.

Rico coming back is great for the WR room. Still need another 3-4 guys there, though.

Yeah, especially if Horton goes pro.

You have the dumbest damn takes in this board I’ve ever seen. You can’t be this ignorant in real life.

Good . Wish we didn’t have to lose anybody and could just add players but am glad to see him back. He could easily get more playing time and need depth . Keely hasn’t produced much in 3 years but he was looking better at the end of the season. Pretty quick off the ball. Wouldn’t mind him returning either . Carter staying would have been nice

I agree with you that Grubb isn't as bad as most on here are saying. There were many, many missed plays last year. Big plays. And if his players can't execute the schemes in live games, then his hands are kinda tied.
Having said that, its hard to believe that we didn't have the horses to run the ball better than we did. And the fact that he got fired from the Seahawks because his offense sucked at running the ball makes it seen like the problem is him. Idk if that's true, but that is what it seems like.
But then again, Washington ran the ball with success when he was the OC. So who tf knows. Maybe it was a big personnel problem in 2025.

I don’t envy the folks trying to find the money to keep players and lure upgrades.
Lots of frustrations from ALOT of people.

Yet people who aren't prisoners of the moment and who are actually knowledgeable agree with me a lot.
You literally couldn't justify something stupid you said when I brought facts about the two NFL teams differences I years and the quality of QB difference.
All you could do is repeat horrible generalizations then insult me. Okay.
In the end Saban wanted to hire Grubb and couldn't. Pete Carroll hired Grubb. Many other coaches wanted him as well.
That says more than you not comprehending the differences in offensive philosophy and not understanding "run da bawl" doesn't make you a good OC.

The OL was clearly the biggest issue. Watch Indiana and how their C and Guards were double teaming the inside guy then one would immediately release to the second level. Our LBs got blown up all game. Wouldn't shock me if Indiana was averaging 3-4 yards before contact in the Rose Bowl.
We almost never got to the second level. Hell, we averaged negative yards before contact in some games. That's not on the RBs.
Also didn't help that we had zero downfield threat in our game last year. What'd we throw, two total deep balls all year that went 40+ air yards? Now go look at what Penix was doing at UW.
