I was pretty excited to get this kid.. haven't heard much from him since. I assume he is following the Mac Jones model, learn and bide your time. He has all the physical tools and a great pedigree. Does anyone have any inside insight?

He went to my alma mater and played under a Gus Malzahn protege Josh Floyd that runs the spread like a fricking maniac. Only problem is he played in probably one of the toughest divisions in the east coast with Hoover, Thompson and others.

Beat Hoover by 30 points his junior year and led Hewitt to their first 10+ win season in a good decade and some change. Dude could ball in the right system. But he needs work I think from what I saw late in the playoffs. Hopefully he can make great grandpa Bear Bryant proud with his play at Alabama if the worst case scenario happens.

A lot (or at least some) of these kids are self-aware enough to know the NFL isn't in their future. They can just enjoy playing and winning and being part of a team at Alabama.

Plus, for those wanting to get into coaching, there isn't a better pedigree to be under than watching, learning, and observing at Bama under Saban.

He has one of those two things. I've watched him in person. He was an above average HS qb, but he doesn't have a great arm, or great touch, or wheels (compared to anybody we've had at QB in a very long time). He's a guy who could possibly be a college starter in his 4th or 5th year, but if he starts before that, it's because something really bad has happened, like our other QBs transferring out.

Ok...I remember getting blasted, along with others on this board, for suggesting that Mac Jones had potential after the 2018 A-Day game... I will bookmark and we will revisit in a couple of years..

Paul Tyson, may or may not be, the starting quarterback at Alabama....For the life of me, I do not understand the negativity surrounding some of these young men. These guys are showing up to practice every day, quietly trying to learn and become better, and working for a chance at a starting position

Nice article for anyone interested

Oft overlooked quarterback Paul Tyson "can make any throw on the field"

Probably the same people who said/say Tyson isn't talented are the ones that were saying Taulia would be as good or better than Tua.

I wouldn't be shocked to see Paul transferring after this season.

If he wants to play, he will. but then again, will he be a back up to Young?

Is there a reason we're trying to hype up Tyson other than some weird good old boy thing?

To be honest, I could care less if he ever takes a meaningful snap. Bryce is clearly second string, Bryce is clearly starting next year.

Maybe. Maybe not.

Maybe he improves over the next few years like Mac.

We need him to stay in case Bryce follows Sark to Texas. The Texas QB declared for the draft today.
Concerned about Brockermeyer brothers going to Texas too if Flood goes with Sark.

Yeah because we’ve never had to worry about having a good 2nd string QB ever

Dude is literal royalty on campus. He is living better than 99% of people at UA. I just hope he doesn't drown in all the pussy he's going to get for 5 years.

I was not negative. I clearly said he could become a college starter by his fourth or fifth year.

When he's at the end of his fourth year in the program, and has hopefully developed a lot? By all means.

I was just being honest with you. He's not going to beat out Bryce Young, so he's only going to see the field before that if there's a transfer or an injury.

It's just the way it is.

This is laughable. Tyson is going to get his UA degree like every single person in his family for the past 85 years. Yes, every single one of them. He's not going anywhere. Hell, I'm not 100% sure he's not paying his own way just to free up a spot for someone else. That's how Bama his family is.

He might go somewhere else for grad school one day, but I doubt even that.

Yes, those of us who saw Mac in scrimmages knew he was legitimate - certainly not Heisman-worthy, but dude could clearly ball out more than most knew.

Tyson is a bit of a mystery to me, in that he was sort of the opposite. In early scrimmages he looked lost and timid, despite how he performed against mid-to-upper level talent in high school.

I really hope he gets it together and finds his game, because like others here, I thought he was really good (mechanically) coming in to the program.

His biggest challenge might be fighting off Jalen Milroe for the spot behind Young.

I think he's grown another inch (now 6'5") and gained at least 20lbs since enrolling.

Still has plenty of eligibility too.

I'd love to see him turn in on late like Mac.

Essentially has four years left. 2019 he took a RS, and this year doesn’t count. Could see him sitting behind Bryce for two years and earning the starting job in 2023

Gary Hollingsworth was 3rd string until one transferred out (Billy Ray) and the other got hurt (Jeff Dunn) early in the season. The one that got hurt, never got the job back, because Hollingsworth a was way better QB.
