There should've been earlier worldwide border-closure bans on all travel to/from all countries that had any citizens infected with COVID-19 or hadn't banned travel to/from infected countries. It seems to me it would've been much easier to prevent it from spreading between countries than it is to keep it from spreading within a country after it gets in. Passports, Visas, Tickets and Gates are pretty easy to control. It's not that hard to quickly close borders when needed. All of this health risk and costly fallout in the U.S. and many other countries probably could've been avoided. Procrastination was a very stupid decision -- the risks of not taking swift proper action were huge. Now those huge risks have become our realities.

The sad thing is, Trump banned travel to China and was called a racist, if he would have gone further, he would have caught more hell. He was in a no win situation.

Dee Snider is pissy because his daughter is stuck in Peru. Guess what, she should have gotten the hell out of there sooner. Just because you’re rich, doesn’t make you any better

That news came out "officially" late this morning.
For now, it's a two week closure. From what I hear from people that work there (I may be wrong, or partially correct), each Mercedes employee will be given a week's pay and then they'll have to use vacation time to get paid for the second week. Contract workers ( of which there are a lot) essentially get cut off immediately. No pay.
Must be nice to be a teacher now, for I'm sure we taxpayers will keep paying them in full, even though they're not providing any service.

My daughter is a physician in South Carolina. She has been sick for several days with the symptoms but believes she does not have the Corona Virus. She still had to be tested before she could return to work and the hospital. Waiting for results.

Did you see my earlier post of somehow in Tuscaloosa they ruined over half of the 1000 samples they had gotten before they could even test them?

Grocery store status for your area?

I've heard some grocery stores are wiped out around town. Or at least out of the staples like eggs, meat and bread.

My MIL went and bought us some groceries from the commissary on base in Montgomery and she said it was slim pickings out there.

People are so fricking stupid. Oh we may be forced to stay home for weeks? Better load up on stuff that has the shortest possible shelf life.

Made chorizo tacos last night because all the beef was gone when I went to Publix.

If you have a deep freezer that stuff is fine. Although quality goes down over time you can freeze bread and meat and it will be good for months. If you separate egg yolks and egg whites and freeze them they are good up to a year. My father use to keep a huge deep freezer of frozen meat and other items we would use throughout the year.

It definitely wasn't a complaint.
