Now 3 California counties have bucked their governor and opened back up.

Thought California was already starting "Phase 2" of reopening later this week. Guess these people wanted a couple of days head start.

These counties went whole hog and opened just about everything. Personal care, dine in, etc.
Unless a local government asks for and gets special permission those are still closed in Cali’s phase 2.

A 19-year-old University of North Carolina student in Lee County has been sick with coronavirus for 48 days. She got the virus while at a college basketball conference in Washington, D.C., cheerleading and has been isolated in her room ever since. She still has a fever and is sleeping 20 hours a day. Her doctors aren't sure why she hasn't improved yet.

Gilead Sciences’ coronavirus-fighting drug will be in the hands of doctors and patients as early as this week, according to CNBC.
"We intend to get [remdesivir] to patients in the early part of this next week, beginning to work with the government which will determine which cities are most vulnerable and where the patients are that need this medicine,” Gilead Chairman and CEO Daniel O’Day said. "We’ve donated the entire supply that we have within our supply chain, and we did that because we acknowledge and recognize the human suffering, the human need here, and want to make sure nothing gets in the way of this getting to patients."
I am glad they did this but the main reason in my opinion is lock down the market with their drug. Other university labs were working with similar drugs but theirs will hit the market first.

The IHME model is now projecting the US to have 134K deaths by August.
Alabama is projected to have 2300.
Looks like they’re factoring social distancing measures even more now

Oh man, that's terrible.
I wonder if there are some important analytics they can glean from this case, as it seems to be such an outlier?

That is what is scary about this virus. You really have no idea how it is going to affect you.

Scientists have reported that the corona virus has mutated into a more contagious version since the outbreak began. LINK

To date, the researchers have identified 14 mutations.
Perhaps the variance in strains is part of the reason we're seeing some variety of symptoms, progression, and prognosis across cases?

That has been the subject of a lot of research but there doesn't seem to be many definite answers yet.
Hopefully it begins to mutate into more versions that just give its victims the sniffles.

Fifteen children, many of whom tested positive for or had previously been exposed to the novel coronavirus, have recently been admitted to New York City hospitals with a mysterious illness possibly linked to COVID-19, health officials said in an alert Monday night.
The patients, aged 2 to 15, had been hospitalized in intensive care from April 17 to May 1 with various symptoms associated with toxic shock or Kawasaki disease, a rare inflammatory syndrome typically affecting children under the age of 5. None of the reported patients have died, though more than half required blood pressure support and five needed mechanical ventilation, according to the bulletin posted by the New York City Health Department.
"Clinical features vary, depending on the affected organ system, but have been noted to include features of Kawasaki disease or features of shock," Dr. Demetre Daskalakis, deputy city health commissioner for disease control, said in the alert Monday night. "However, the full spectrum of disease is not yet known."
All 15 patients had subjective or measured fever while more than half reported rash, abdominal pain, vomiting or diarrhea. Less than half of those patients reported respiratory symptoms, according to the city health department, which described the mystery ailment as a "multi-system inflammatory syndrome potentially associated with COVID-19."
Molecular diagnostic testing showed four of the patients were positive for the virus strain that causes COVID-19, while antibody testing revealed that six who had tested negative were likely previously infected with the virus.
The New York City Health Department had identified the 15 patients by contacting pediatric intensive care units in hospitals across the city over the past week.
"Only severe cases may have been recognized at this time," Daskalakis said.
A growing number of hospitals in the United States and Europe have reported similar cases, raising concerns of a new global pattern emerging of critically ill children with COVID-19.

last evening one of the Bham TV stations had an interview with a young man who was included in the Remdesiver study. He said he had Covid-19 and had been dealing with the pain at home, but suddenly on Sunday he started having trouble breathing. Said he was gasping for breath. He was rushed to UAB hospital. Monday morning they asked if he wanted to be part of the trial they were doing on Remdesiver. He said yes, not knowing whether he would get the drug or the placebo. On Wednesday, 3 days later he was released to his family, to go home. He had taken the drug. The doctors in the press conference last week said one reason they had to stop the trial because there was such a large difference in how those with the placebo were being affected. So, hopefully Remdesiver will help if they can get enough in production.

Those Alabama statistics show just how insane it is to quarantine normal, healthy people because of this. There have been TWO deaths in Alabama in people under 50 with no underlying conditions. We should be encouraging distancing and providing help to people with compromising conditions (delivery services, shopping assistants, touchless pickup, etc.) while opening everything immediately for everyone else. As of now, you are statistically more likely to die falling out of a tree stand than die of COVID-19 if you are under 50 and healthy.

They have been saying that the worst is coming in 2 weeks for 2 months now. It is time to open everything back up. If those that are high risk want/need to stay in then by all means do so but the rest need to get back to normal.
