I'm not afraid of catching this virus so why would I wear a mask?

The CDC said NOT to wear a mask if you weren't sick.

I'm not sick, therefore, no mask.

Feel free to do whatever you wish.

Not because of mutations. It's because of antivaxxers who travel to other countries and bring it home, and immigrants crossing into the country illegally and bring the virus with them. Very few of them have had vaccinations.

Wow. Each of those things are like a one in a million shot. You might just have the worst measles luck of anyone on the planet.

You do you, Saint, but the CDC has recanted on the no mask stance. They decided it wasn't a bad idea.

Okay you got me. I really wish we'd eliminate the "State Auditor" position completely.

This department has it's place, but it has no business being an independent entity.

People think it has something to do with auditing, but the reality is the State Examiners are the the auditors.

This is true. The auditor's office in Alabama does no audits. They only inventory state property. They literally do things like count pieces of furniture and vacuum cleaners in the Governor's Mansion. Zeigler's predecessor's only qualification for the job was that she was married to a supreme court justice, and Zeigler is even worse.

Look, we're all adults here (hopefully) capable of making the best decisions we can based on our own assessment of risk.

I don't smoke, I'm not overweight, I don't have any other health problems, I exercise daily and I have been spending upwards of two hours a day outside either doing yardwork, swimming or playing badminton with my kids.

None of my kids have pre-existing health issues that would place them at risk from the virus and none of them are overweight. They are outside more than I am.

My wife falls into the same category as I do. As a whole we are a healthy family and I'm grateful for it.

Having said that, we are following the social distance guidelines probably better than 99% of the people in our city. We cook every night. We've gotten take out once in 7 weeks and that was for Yum Yum sauce from our local hibachi restaurant to go with my wife's homemade fried rice.

I've made maybe a dozen trips to the grocery store, Lowe's, liquor and beer stores in almost 2 months. That's an average of a little over one outing a week. So, yeah, I'm not wearing a mask to go into Lowe's to pick up ant killer for my yard.

If I get it, I get it. I'll self quarantine for 2 weeks and be done with it. I'm not actively seeking to get infected, but I'm sure as hell not letting it scare me into doing something I feel is unnecessary.

Assess the risk for you and your family and make your decisions based on them. If your decision is to wear a mask whenever you go outside, awesome. Everyone's situation is going to be different and that's okay. There's no need to get angry, upset or confrontational because someone else doesn't share your feelings on how THEY should be handling their risk assessment decision making.

For instance, we won't allow our son to go spend time at his girlfriend's house because they aren't following any social distance guidelines whatsoever. They are having pool parties with multiple families and eating out almost every night. They are upset with us because we tell them no every time they invite him over. It is what it is.

Which is a function that should be absorbed by the State Examiner's department with the elimination of the State Auditor's department. The problem is that morons think the State Auditor is necessary.

The mask isn’t really for your protection. It’s to keep asymptomatic people(which could be you) from potentially spreading it. I’m in good health and never get sick, but still wear one when I go to the store. If it keeps someone from getting it, great. If it doesn’t, it really didn’t hurt me to wear it the 30 minutes I was in the store. But I realize I’ll never know if it helped or not.

That said, everyone has to make their own decisions. My comment shouldn’t be taken as shaming anyone into wearing one.

This is what I’m driving at too, Spleen. I’m not bashing anyone for your decision. I’m trying to understand it. Take Saint for instance; I’m not picking on him. I understand his stance now. I agree with his logic, but that’s not why I wear a mask.

I keep telling people and most don’t get it: it’s not to protect me, it’s to protect you. That’s what I’m trying to get across. I’m not trying to change your mind, I just want you all to know why I think it’s a good idea for anyone who will to wear one.

Saint gives strong arguments why he feels he and his family need not worry about getting the virus. If that’s the case, it’s not you I’m worried about, it’s the clerk at the liquor store or at Lowe’s or wherever that you give it to. You may put them in the hospital or even kill them. It wasn’t intentional; hell, you might not even know you have it. But that person who may be susceptible is putting their health and maybe their life on the line every day just so we can carry on with that aspect of our lives in a semi-normal fashion. The least I can do is respect them by making an effort to protect them just a little bit more from anything I may be carrying. My feeling is I don’t have the right to possibly endanger others.

I’m trying not to be judgmental but in some cases it’s hard. Fresh Market has asked that all shoppers wear a mask to protect their employees. I went in mine today, mask on. It pissed me off to see probably half of the shoppers without one. They have asked, posted signs on the door about it so if you don’t feel like respecting their wishes, don’t shop there. There’s a Walmart and a Target across the street and a Publix down the road.

I didn’t mean to get preachy but we all have choices and decisions to make that affect others. Maybe I’m more sensitive to it because my wife is one of those people in the pharmacy that is getting endangered every fricking day because a mask is too much trouble for some. I’m just saying remember the Golden Rule because it’s never been more relevant than it is with this pandemic.

I don’t wear a mask. I don’t like things on my face or touching my face. I don’t wear glasses, I don’t wear sunglasses.

On top of that, those masks make me feel like I’m suffocating. I just can’t handle it.

I use hand sanitizer and I try to stay more than 6 feet away from folks, mainly because people annoy the piss out of me and if I go somewhere, it’s with a purpose and I don’t want to chit chat. I don’t chit chat when I go to the cash register and I use a self check out as much as possible.

A vaccine by September would be amazing. But with a July time frame for finalizing human trial results, I dont know that big pharma could manufacturer enough for the demand by the fall, even with an immediate ramp up in manufacturing on expectations that it will be approved. But maybe, they vaccinate enough to severely limit the spread. Break the chain.

Several big pharma houses are manufacturing before proof of concept. J&J is one. They are betting the farm they have a viable product and starting production before trials are complete. Either they know something we don’t know or they are taking a huge risk.

The other thing is that you don't need enough for everyone up front. Those with positive antibody tests (which based on studies looks like a massive number of people) and those not considered at high risk won't be in the group that gets vaccinated out the door.

University of Alabama campus will re-open for Fall.

The UA System chancellor echoed what other universities who have announced re-opening have said, barring any new information the campus will re-open.

quote:

The University of Alabama system intends to return to on-campus instruction for the upcoming fall semester barring any more extenuating circumstances or health risks, said Finis E. St. John IV, chancellor of The University of Alabama System.

Fixed it for you so it says exactly what the Chancellor said.

quote:

The University of Alabama system intends to return to on-campus instruction for the upcoming fall semester barring any more extenuating circumstances or health risks, said Finis E. St. John IV, chancellor of The University of Alabama System.

But this is the main issue many are dealing with is getting ready and being prepared for whatever accommodations have to made to allow students back.

quote:

“We fully expect to have on-campus instruction,” St. John said. “We don’t know what the circumstances will be, but we are trying to be ready."

Lets hope all the campuses will be able to reopen in the fall.

Fauci just said that Remdesivir has a significant effect on recovery time. So that’s really good news

Yeah, every single statement by these universities puts that caveat in there. It’s funny to see the media just gloss over that.
