Deadbeat

He and his lackeys had the Bama Scout board falling for all sort of BS back in the day. My favorite was when they knew the results of an FBI interrogation the same day of the interview.

I was one of several posters that called him out for his bullshite on the scout.com during Camgate.

Ahhh, fake insiders

Feel like that’s been a popular topic these days

I'll give Scott Moore this. Local radio in December 2006 he was a guest and after the RichRod ordeal, like a day later, he said look for Mal to make an all out push to bring Saban to Tuscaloosa.

I remember the local host laughing out loud at SM when he said it.

He was also telling people it was Bob Stoops.

Someone, sometime, somewhere should come up with the official, permanent definition of "Insider" and the extent infallibility should play a part. And then for every future discussion that comes up about every 15 minutes on a football forum, we can relate to the said definition.

Truth is, you either enjoy the banter and speculation or you don't. My guess is if you don't then you probably don't enjoy the "recruiting" season and all the "speculation" that goes on there too. Andrew Bone is an "insider" but he just has to say many times certain recruits are keeping it at home better than most and who really knows where he's going. A lot of the time Andrew is just speculating. It's what he gets paid for.

Over at TideFans.com the "Duke of Earle" has this NO speculation policy that has the teeth of the Nazi Gestapo. Truth is there are all kinds of censorship over there on a variety of football subjects. If that's your thing I guess TideFans is for you. Otherwise, the hard reality is that Alabama football talk is mostly "speculation." No one should try to imply it isn't, even the "Duke of Earl."

Herbie is an "ESPN insider" and he screws it up by the numbers. Even Les Miles in 2007 made him look clownish with his report Les was going to Michigan. Whether Herbie is always right or not, it ain't that big of a deal. It's just football folks. As Les said as he dropped the mic in the 07 presser and just a grinning, "have a good day."

Yeah, that wasn't an uncommon thought at the time. People knew the Saban had long been Mal's first choice. He got "forced" into offering Rich Rod because some powers that be didn't want to wait until the NFL season wrapped up for fear that Saban would spurn us.

Maybe Moore was one of the first to publicly say it, I don't know. But it wasn't some outlandish claim.

This is why this should always be Exhibit A when we think about our next football hire. It makes me pucker up every day just thinking about the next RichRod, or Shula, or Fran, or Dubose. The odds of getting it wrong are much greater than otherwise.

There are very few sure things. So many variables at play.

I used to have a business relationship with a former player of Coach Bryant’s. He was a booster, insider, blah, blah, blah, and he was more wrong than someone just guessing.

Timing is such a big deal when it comes to hiring a coach. That and “we need an Alabama guy!” are what worry me the most when it comes to our next search. We could have all of our ducks in a row for the next search but just have shitty luck on what coaches are available or ready to make that move.

That's how we ended up with Perkins. They wanted to do a press conference and he was the only one able to commit.
