Switching gears a bit, who does Landon Collins remind you guys of? 6'0" 215, excellent athlete, made LSU butthurt.

I mean it doesn't get better than that.

Darren Lake wasn't at practice for the second straight practice.

Tony Brown was practicing even though today was opening day for outdoor track and field.

Sims and Morris lead the qb drill with Bateman and McLeod behind.

Lee and Devall lead the OLBs. Depriest and Ragland lead inside. Anderson practicing with OLBs.

No changes to oline or dline.

We didn't bring in two JUCO DL to sit em. I expect both will be either starting or in the 2 deep. We are pretty weak at NG right now. Of course we are in nickel a lot and I think reed will be one of the guys in the rotation there.

Anybody know what's going on with Lake?

Who does everyone have winning the other ILB spot? Ragland or Foster? I have Foster, but I think it is a toss up. I imagine Ragland is going with the first team so that the coaches can get a look.

According to a poster on BOL Lake had surgery on his peck muscle.

I think we will finally get to see Reuben Foster starting. I've been excited about him since his first commitment to Bama .It would be really good for him to learn under Depriest next year.

Are there any practice photos floating around, especially of the new guys?

Saw some of Tony Brown. He physically looks like the best corner Saban has ever had, and that's as a true freshman. Really thick lower body and a long torso and long arms. Won't be shocked if he wins a starting job, he's already taking first team reps.

Hootie looked like he could shed 5-10 pounds around the waist, but he's another kid that looks the part as far as contributing as a freshman, from a physical standpoint.

Cam Sims is another one that looks the part. Physically he looks a lot like a young Julio. Big, tall kid.

These can all be found on al.com
They've got some videos up as well

Freshman gallery. Some physically impressive players at their age. CSC should put the spinners on em.

Yep. Reed is an animal.

Pettway, Robinson, Reed, Allen is what I expect the down linemen group to look like most of the time. We run more 4 man than 3 man front, and Allen/Pettway can both get after the QB when that's their focus.

Dickson, Ivory, Tomlinson, Liner is what I'd expect the second group to look like. Lots of talent and depth up front. Need guys like Williams and Anderson step up and provide extra pass rushers though.

3-4 personnell groupings and nickel.

Basically Reed comes out and every one slides inside one spot, and Devall puts his hand in the dirt on the outside.

BASE 4-3

X...........X

X......X...X...X.........X
X...X...X...X

BASE 3-4

X......X

X.....D....X..X....X.....X
X...X...X

BASE NICKEL

X................X

X........X.......X....X..........X

D..X...X....X

BASE 2-4-5

Same as nickel, sub in another backer

"D" is where I see Devall playing in, and all purely speculative on my part.

ETA: this did not show up on the post how it showed up when I typed it out

When did we start using 4 down lineman more than 3?

2012.

Had a viable NG in Cody in 2008-2009, and Chapman after that. Didn't have one in 2012
