if I had to throw out anyone simulating Thomas at our practice it would of been Morris just based on the size comparisons.

let the fap fest begin..I felt like Jones would be the odd man out at RB as he seemed the smallest of the new ones who might be looking at a RS year.

Does anyone think Sims' running ability may be the reason as to why he's remained the number two? I know it doesn't seem like Saban would make a decision based off of a guy's ability to run, but maybe he's coming along better as a passer than we think, and his running ability is something Saban thinks might be a valuable asset that teams aren't ready for if AJ goes down.

My guess is he understands the offense better. Also unless someone is clearly better Saban seems to reward the upperclassmen which I agree with. He's put in the time and unless Morris is better, Sims deserves the nod.

Sims may "understand" the offense better, my concern with him is I've never seen him function within the offense in a way that would make he think he actually knows how to play the position.
He tucks way too fast, is inaccurate and erratic in terms of decision making every time I've seen him and I don't see those as the traits of a Saban QB.

i like him for a change of pace guy but don't think he is clearly number 2 if AJ gets hurt and is out for an extending period of time. Both Sims and Ely got PT last year which tells me Ely may have been the long term answer should AJ have gone down

As the season went on, we saw more BS and less Ely which indicates to me that BS moved ahead of him.

Exactly... Also Ely is the one that transferred to another school. In hindsight, it doesn't appear that Alec Morris is the one that pushed him out either.

Either way, if Morris can't even get snaps ahead of Blake Sims or a freshman walk-on I don't see how anyone can objectively feel like Saban has him pegged as next up after AJ leaves.

Drake was working with the scout team today lending support to the rumor that he's suspended for the 1st game

Wasn't he suspended for a game last year as well? With the seven or eight hundred running backs signed last year, this is not good news for Mr. Drake.

We don't need him for VT
Nope. And I have a feeling, just by the way Saban has been talking, that Dee Hart is #2 on the depth chart now anyway.

What we saw
-- We didn't mention this Friday, but it's worth noting that RB Kenyan Drake is wearing a No. 14 scout team jersey. Not quite sure what that means because Drake continued to line up third in the group behind T.J. Yeldon and Dee Hart. Maybe Drake gives the defense a good look at Virginia Tech's Trey Edmunds? Yeldon, Hart, Derrick Henry and Altee Tenpenny wore their normal numbers. Alvin Kamara wore his normal number, but continued to wear a black, non-contact jersey.
-- WR Kevin Norwood stood off to the side with his helmet propped on top of his head as Alabama's wide receivers ran routes and caught passes from the quarterbacks. Not sure if this is toe-related or not.
-- RT Austin Shepherd had an issue with his helmet while we were watching. That meant a bunch of first-team repetitions for junior-college transfer Leon Brown.
-- Freshman DB Maurice Smith is wearing his normal number. Over the past few days, he's been working as Alabama's second-team option at "Star" behind Jarrick Williams, who is filling in for the suspended Geno Smith.
-- A few more scout team numbers that are all over the field: 80 (WR Demitri Knowles), 5 (WR Joshua Stanford), 8 (S Detrick Bonner) and 11 (CB Kendall Fuller).
-- That many players are wearing No. 80 makes it difficult for us to recognize if freshman WR Raheem Falkins is running with the scout team. AJ McCarron doled out praise to Falkins at SEC Media Days.

All the people dogging Morris make me shake my head. He was clearly the 2nd best QB at Aday and has a ton of ability and upside. BS is a turnover machine if he throws the ball. There is no way Morris is OT the starter if AJ goes, down. IMHO.

What is killing me Flounder is the sheer amount of people dogging AJ. And the lack of backbone from our fanbase when it he is drug through the dirt. Heck we even have a Bama sportswriter for one of the main pay sites trash AJ and say he isn't even 3rd team SEC.
I get trying to be anti-homer but what is with the self hate and AJ?

I don't know anyone who hates on AJ's exploits on the field.
IRL he is a little bit of a douche. But he's our douche.

Some people say he's a douche, but I guess me and those people have a different definition of douche. By all accounts, AJ is one of the better players in CFB OFF the field.
