He didn't play in the spring game this year, he was injured.

Hell Depreist looked like a beast to me last year. He played more than Nico which means something. Not to mention the fact that he is in better shape this year. So hopefully we see some of the speed that we saw in his high school film. Dont know who would take his spot.

In defense of Depriest he was dinged up most of the year. Combine better conditioning because he's able to practice and workout with starting at 100% and I think you'll see a completely different player.

Its like giving AJ a hard time for having sub-par games against LSU and A&M. No crap he had trouble, he could barely get out there in the first place because of broken ribs and a messed up knee.

Trey played great in the Michigan game. But he seems tentative at times and leaves his feet way to much for a linebacker his size when he tackles someone.

@Andrew_Gribble: WR Amari Cooper wearing a black jersey, suspended TE Malcolm Faciane back with the team. More to come in today's practice report.

Fingers crossed that Fanning moves back to DL

Observations

Alabama WR Amari Cooper works in a black non-contact jersey -- WR Amari Cooper wore a black, non-contact jersey and worked exclusively with a trainer during the open viewing session. His injury has not been disclosed, but he was able to go through a variety of exercises. He was hopping a lot. We're anticipating an update from Nick Saban after today's practice.

Suspended TE Malcolm Faciane (85) is back with the Alabama football team -- TE Malcolm Faciane made his first appearance of the season. The sophomore had been suspended for a violation of team rules. Because it was his first practice, Faciane wore a helmet, jersey and shorts while the rest of his teammates were in full pads.

-- LB Tana Patrick was not participating in a handful of early practice drills. His left foot/ankle was heavily taped.

-- CB Deion Belue was working through individual drills, but sat off to the side when Alabama practiced its nickel defense. John Fulton and Bradley Sylve worked at the two cornerback spots, Geno Smith was at the Star and HaHa Clinton-Dix and Vinnie Sunseri were the safeties.

-- Austin Shepherd continued to work at left guard while Arie Kouandjio was at right tackle. Both remain with the first-team group.

-- Brandon Greene continued to work with the tight ends. That's three consecutive practices for the redshirt freshman who was previously working behind Cyrus Kouandjio at left tackle.

-- Former Pro Bowl and Heisman trophy-winning running back Eddie George watched today's practice. He was in town today with Jack Arute, as the duo has been touring college campuses for their SiriusXM College Sports Nation radio show.

-- Saban wasn't nearly as heated as he was yesterday, but the mood remained intense as he worked with the defensive backs.

-- Scouts from the Jacksonville Jaguars, Houston Texans and one other team we couldn't decipher watched practice.

I hope they aren't thinking of making the move permanent

I wouldn't mind Brandon Greene moving to TE. I feel like he'll be passed at tackle. I think everyone was mostly excited about his potential at tackle and not the actual skills. If he is quick and can catch a little bit, he's so tall that he could be a potential mismatch. And God knows he should be able to block adequately

Who would be our back-up left tackle? Not a lot of options on the roster ATM

@Andrew_Gribble: Alabama starting LB Trey DePriest suspended "for a short time" for violation of team rules.

@Andrew_Gribble: WR Amari Cooper has a strained foot. Out for a few days, Saban said.

I'm guessing if Searus went down, there would be a complete reshuffling anyway. Another words, Greene isn't the TRUE backup.

If he was, I don't think we would do this move.

If Cyrus goes down, Bama is likely boned in any situation. Kellen Williams is the only other player besides Greene to have experience at LT. Would force someone like Grant Hill to grow fast.

I don't think it's a bad move if permanent, I just thought Greene has a really good future at LT. I guess it depends on how serious the need is and what they do to transition him. If he stays around his OT playing weight at TE, he could easily be shuffled back in. If they ask him to trim weight, it might be more permanent.

With a versatile player available at H-Back in Fowler, they can afford to put a pure blocker at TE. It's usually one or the other, and this year it may shake out like that. I'm sure Vogler and Howard will still see a lot of playing time anyway, but Bama's inside zone philosophy requires a bit more force at that position.
