We are shooting exactly 33.3% as a team. Making 1/3 of your 3s isn't great by any means, but it isn't abysmal either. We made closer to 1/4 of them last year.

and we go on 3-5 min droughts

We go on scoring droughts because his shitty arse "offense" only produces high % shots off of turnovers. When is the last time we hit a lob or an open cutter under the basket? It might happen once every other week. We overdribble, back out, stall, pass, pass, pass, and make an out of control drive into traffic or take a contested jumper.

Anything less than a Sweet 16 next year should probably cost him his job. Preferably as a 4 or 5 seed instead of a bubble team that gets hot at the right time.

If he bubbles out this year and then does the same next year while finishing top four in SEC, I believe he will have not shot of getting fired. Not that I personally agree with the call, but I don't see the admin making a change.

Would you say we are in better or worst shape than the Mark Gottfried days?..and how many tournaments did we go to when Gottfried was the coach, how man 20 win seasons did we have, and how many years did we give mark?...and look how Mark has NCstate playing, the bottom line is Alabama is not getting good bball talent in but with the talent and none shooting team we have AG has done a good job imo...if you can win 20 plus games with this bball team then your a good coach imo maybe not a great coach but who do we hire that you can say with the talent we have will do a better job.

Push.

and look how Mark has NCstate playing

The same way he had us playing, but with a little more talent. They always play like shite on the road, just like his Alabama teams did. Once he gets lazy and has 2 bad classes in a row it will get bad for them too.

quote:

but with the talent and none shooting team we have AG has done a good job

Once again...we aren't THAT bad from outside. We are below average, but not so bad that it cripples us. Releford and Lacey are both good outside shooters, and Cooper and Retin are capable of knocking down a handful if they get hot. Shooting isn't our problem. Pace and a lack of complete post players are our problems.

quote:

if you can win 20 plus games with this bball team then your a good coach

The SEC is just as shitty this year as it was last year. Winning 20 games really isn't that impressive. And we haven't won 20 games yet anyway.

I think we're certainly in better shape now than in Gottfried's final years. I don't think there's any debating that. That's going to be my only contribution to the debate in this thread

We have the talent to play much, much better than we do. We have a roster full of 4 and 5 stars who play like 3 stars. To me, that's on the coach not the players.

I guarantee you, next year we'll be saying the same thing. A small majority who actually watches basketball will be calling for a change and the majority will be saying "give him one more year, he's doing a fine job". We're stuck.

I dont think next year will be the same. Well...it depends on who is starting. Jacobs needs to be released from his scholarship IMO.

Don't have to know a lot about basketball to know this team should have made the ncaa tourney even with a loss today. Losing to teams like Mercer, Tulane, and Auburn got us in a must-win situation. Then we couldn't win. It's the story of the Anthony Grant era.

Exactly. People seem to think just because we're on the bubble means we overachieved. That's not true at all. We're on the bubble because we massively underachieved.

(Also remember that Tennessee game where we didn't even get a shot off at the end and Grant stood there laughing like an idiot)

They really don't, and nothing pisses me off more when I here some kids here at Bama talk about how much we suck, when they've NEVER been to ONE basketball game all year, NEVER even SEEN us on TV, don't even know our record, but automatically think we're one of the worst teams in the SEC.
I think a lot of people on here are like that too. I know bball falls under a huge shadow here, but at least show some interest.

that's just not true. if you look at the roster, we don't have a single complete forward or center on the roster. that we were this close at all is a testament to how hard the team plays and how well coached we are on defense. you can criticize grant's roster management as it relates to that but most of the people doing that are spoiled football fans with an embarrassing lack of perspective of where the program was when grant inherited it and where it has been historically. we'll see if it's a continuing problem going forward but this was the first season we have not improved under grant and anyone saying its time for him to be fired or giving up hope on next year already or saying we should release Jacobs when he's our only offensive post threat on the roster or ignoring engstrom's injury or saying Lacey is a shitty player or whining about how we just stand around on the perimeter on offense (which isn't true and anyone who thinks it is knows dick about basketball) or whatever all you idiots have been whining about all year even though we went 12-6 in the conference, well those people are all fricking morons. making the tournament is like finishing on the top 25 in football, not just making a bowl game. and alabama basketball is not alabama football, it never will be. I've held my to tongue while you morons have cried like spoiled children all season, even after we won games, which is pretty hilarious to me, but I'll just put it this way: if you think grant needs to be fired, and if you think thats a defensible position, you are dumb as frick, no exceptions.

I played BB at the local YMCA..I am an expert. But in year 4 we should not be at NIT team after making it in year 3.

there are very, very few programs that make the NCAA every year. Alabama has never been one of them.

Did you think we would make the NCAAt coming into the season?
