It's not ALL about recruiting, but you do have to have good recruiting to succeed. You don't have to have highly rated players to be a great recruiter though. Butler had Shelvin Mack, Gordon Heyward, Rotnei Clark, and that big man (forgot his name, but he was very good). Wichita State has a lot of good players and recently have been tapping into the 4-star pool that last couple years. Gonzaga had Kelly Olynyk, Elias Harris, Adam Morrison, and several others. I'm not familiar with most of the players currently on Davidson, but they had a player that is a current candidate for MVP in the NBA in Curry.

The reason why I used Michigan is due to the fact they have had only 1 McDonald all American since 2000. Looking back on it Butler under Brad Stevens would have been a better example. I could have used a better school then Indiana but they came to mind first because of Zeller, Ferell, and Vonleh...

I have a feeling Pearl will end up back at UT. He just went to a major Nashville sporting event decked out in Orange.

I know Grant is his guy, but his points are laughable. He criticizes Barbee's attrition yet nothing about ours as well as the comment about wanting instant gratification. This is his 5th year.

Exactly. Just look at where we are now and where Wichita is for comparison.

Just think less than 3 years we were losing to them in the NIT Final. They are about to make their third straight NCAA appearance, including a Final Four and are the last remaining undefeated this year

I'd take him in a heartbeat

I listened to Finebaum leaving campus today and he's right: this seems like a father figure trying to protect the guy he got hired here.

I know Creighton has McDermott, but we played them in an 8-9 game in the NCAA tournament just a couple years back. Look where they are and look where we are with largely the same core of players. It's depressing.

Exactly. Our pinnacle of success under Grant was when we had Green, Mitchell, and Hines-all Gottfried recruits. Without those guys, we've experienced a huge decline. I just can't see how it could be justified to give him another year. We are no better now than we were 5 years ago...it could be argued that we are worse.

volfan just posted this video about Cuonzo. It would be perfect if someone did this for Grant. It's actually pretty clever
