the fans closest to the program know what is going on just like we do with AG...if we fire AG would you think UCLA or UF or UK would come calling just cuz he has a great reputation. I doubt it. So why should we come after someone who flunked out his last few years at UCLA. Kids stopped playing for him and quit on him and left the program..Those same tendencies are part of who is he..We won't change AG and we won't change Howland. So with that being said I don't think he is a good fit. I would hope they would go after an up and comer then someone who has already arrived and is on the downhill slide.

my point is that AG is not going to have folks calling his name because he had a good reparation as a BB coach. Just like folks are not all looking to hire Ben because he once had it..So why should Bama stoop to hiring or even considering hiring HOwland.

Please go read some of the articles out there on his tenure at UCLA, especially the last few years and then come back and tell me why he would be a great fit at Bama

He's been to 3 final fours, a good recruiter, and a well respected coach even though SI put out that piece on a few of the bad kids that came through the UCLA program.

2 at the top of the list

Ben Howland and Bruce Pearl

Gregg Marshall who is in his 7th yr at Wichita St should get an interview

Here's a good article about him - LINK /

Also need to see if Greg McDermott (Creighton's HC since 2010) has interest

Those would be my beginning list

Howland is the most likely of the big names, but I'd definitely rather have Marshall. We'd have to fork over some major cash for that to even be a possibility. Pearl won't happen unless we wait until next season. Battle isn't desperate enough to hire a guy with a show-cause. He'd be my number one choice if he was an option.

My list of somewhat realistic options would go:

1. Greg Marshall
2. Ben Howland
3. Rick Byrd (Belmont HC)
4. Donnie Tyndall (Southern Miss HC)
5. Jim Crews (SLU HC)
6. Derek Kellog (UMASS HC)
7. Greg McDermott

I'd be down for any one of those guys.

He's really good friends with CM Newton who Battle is also friends with

He's a good coach don't care about surroundings of his firing at UCLA. It is one of the few Men's bball programs with no wiggle room and a huge magnifying glass crammed up the arse of the program.

Howland would be a phenomenal hire at Bama

Exactly like a poster here Westcoastag over on the OTB that I asked before, lives and has fam in LA and went to UCLA has connections as well with some friends

Said Howland was dealt a raw deal and would be a terror in the SEC because as Bryant said he knows how to find good talent and develop it.

Was also gonna mention Crews he's a statistician hip but not sure he would leave StL so quickly especially after the surrounding situation of the way he took over with Majerus stepping down or whatever.

Only issue I'd have with him is recruiting on the SEC and the state

I think we will be surprised at the highly regarded names Battle will go after and also a good list of major programs assistants will likely also get mentions

It is the route he took with hiring the Women's bball coach, not too many mid-major program coaches, he swung for the fences

Marshall while at a MM would fit that criteria I think and McDermott would as well

I'm a huge fan of McDermott's O

Judging by his gameplay commentary, I'd say that ship has sailed.

When asked if he'd regret signing with Bama if Grant was fired...

@D_Mitch22: @EricSilver34 no sir I did choose 2 play 4 CAG I want him there, but I have a great relationship w/the team & the guys Im coming in with

Interesting, but not shocking. I imagine his decision would be based on Coleman staying anyways.
