according to his interview with AL.com when he announced he was coming to Bama... He had a PWO offer from Arky St, and he was holding on to see if anyone would make a better deal... so when Alabama "Offered" he immediately accepted... there was never a confirmation as to "Scholarship" or "Walk on".. just Bama offered and he accepted, packed his stuff and was in T'town next day.

Yep. The media assumed Layne Hatcher was given a football scholarship. They also assumed Jordan Davis signed an NLI. UA didn't talk about either one of their situations in detail.

There are some handy links at the top of the 1st post in the stickied recruiting thread, including 2018 Signing Class, 2018 Roster, 2019 Projected Roster, info on scholarship numbers, etc. The "Note" link on the 5th line is a good one. I track all that stuff via posts and keep the links to those posts there so everyone has easy access to all of that information.

I have a good friend who is VT alum; he's not an insider or anything, but he follows them closely. I was talking to him recently and he said that there is a big issue there right now with the culture of the team. Fuente gave it a couple of years of trying to do it the established VT way and now is basically taking complete control, running some players off that didn't buy-in and now is going to do it his way. My friend said it wasn't exactly clear where the school leadership was leaning, he's guessing it's with Fuente.
It'll be an interesting situation to watch and see if he can wrestle control away from where it is now. Nice change of pace catching up on issues that aren't ours.

VT under Beamer were in the running for a few Fulmer Cups so I can believe there are cultural problems in the football program that are still there. If this is true Fuente and Bud Foster is an enabler of that culture Fuente may have to get rid of him.

y'all think it could be foster having issues over not being promoted to hc? thats what it sounds like. plus, those foster defenses the last couple years just look more like foster brooks defenses.

Foster wanted to stay, but he also is very much a Beamer disciple and has been fighting to keep that culture in place without any of the other things Beamer did as a hc to temper it. He also has been the defensive recruiting coordinator (Something Fuente did to try and give him some autonomy and something at least some decision makers at VT wanted and then Foster absolutely dropped the ball in multiple positons, not even close to making numbers let alone talent.) So not only have his defenses the past two seasons struggled, he hasn't recruited well at all
