Yeah I think when he was coming on board, we heard he was going to be a great recruiting asset and how players loved him. Definitely not ready to right that part of his game off yet. It just didn’t translate into recruiting success for him at Bama this cycle.

The not-so-secret news around the program that Alabama defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi was on the move to the NFL to become the Cleveland Browns’ defensive line coach became national headlines Wednesday night, as reported by The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman. Alabama likely wanted the news to stay on the down low until National Signing Day in February, but it wasn’t to be.

Alabama fans’ immediate reaction was, “Who’s left on staff?” That’s only natural for a program that’s already lost its offensive coordinator, offensive line coach, wide receivers coach and quarterbacks coach since the season ended. But for all the gnashing of teeth, the reality is that the attrition hasn’t yet finished. More coaching turnover is expected before the full 2019 coaching staff is filled out. When all is said and done, the staff turnover will equal or exceed last season’s six staff changes.

With a background working with the defensive line and linebackers, Lupoi had limited knowledge of coaching the secondary and how everything comes together, especially in the back end of the defense. Once Jeremy Pruitt left to be the head coach at Tennessee, Saban took a chance on Lupoi and made him the coordinator. To mitigate the risk, Saban also brought in Pete Golding, who had served as the defense coordinator at UTSA. Golding was viewed as a bright defensive mind and had no connection to Saban prior to the hiring. Saban will exhaust all avenues to bring in an experienced defensive mind, preferably one who is familiar with Saban’s system. That doesn’t mean that Golding won’t be the defensive coordinator. It’s just not a slam dunk decision as it was when Smart left and Saban made exactly one phone call to fill the position, and that was to Pruitt. At this time, the expectation is that Golding will remain with the program in 2019.

McNair at BOL just posted that has a source at UW and Lake definitely interviewed and they are very concerned about losing him.

I think he's better than an average recruiter. JMO.
