Josh's salary at Bama was 525k and he doubled that by going to Go Blue as the OC instead of a position coach. Why wouldn't anybody take that step? Did Nick offer the gut the OC position? I guess Go Blue Jim needs a win in the paper for his program and taking something from Nick Saban sounds good you have to admit even if you pay another 600K to get them at your site.

Gattis has agreed to a 3-year contract that will pay him a $900,000 salary, a $200,000 signing bonus and up to $400,000 in performance bonuses.

On his way out and after he left he said and did some things I thought would be unforgivable. A very few years later, that same coach came back to The University as DC.

Also worth noting that Saban didn’t even interview other candidates when an opening became available for DC. I remember the press conference where he clearly stated “I only made one call”. Just a hunch, but football coaches are tough guys who don’t get their feelings hurt easily.

What Gattis said wasn’t a big deal. His choice of words probably wasn’t the best but I don’t think it was a shot at Saban or Alabama.

While the coaching turnover is aggravating and seems to have finally caught up to Bama with the Clemson beat down, look at the silver lining.....with such a large number of coaches who have worked under Saban since 2007, as these guys move on towards bigger jobs, just by sheer number it increases the likelihood one of them will become the next Saban, Meyer, Swinney etc.

Once Saban retires to the lake, the pool of coaches who have previous experience at Alabama and know firsthand it’s the crown jewel of college football is gonna be deep and wide.

I’ve heard it said you don’t want to be the guy who follow THE GUY. bullshite, as competitive as these guys are, they will be lining up to take over a stacked roster and a program that runs like a well oiled machine.

One of Alabama’s analysts has landed a defensive coordinator job. UConn is hiring Lou Spanos as its defensive coordinator, sources told AL.com.

Spanos, a defensive analyst for the Crimson Tide this past season, was UCLA’s defensive coordinator from 2012 to 2013 and then the Tennessee Titans' linebackers coach from 2014 to 2017.

Before UCLA, Spanos worked for the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1995 to 2009 and was then the Washington Redskins' linebackers coach in 2010 and 2011.

I had forgotten about Spanos. Sounds like we may have had the LB coach on the staff that we needed to have working with our guys but he could not get on the field.

Gattis claiming it was taken out of context:

Anyone who has taken words from my podcast out of context as a shot on someone & a program I have tremendous respect for is completely wrong! Reading without listening is a complete assumption. The joke was poorly made lightly not to reflect someone I have the utmost respect for!

I think those are TN plates, so presumably that's Butch's car.

He could still be filling the recruiting role until we get staff hired? He owes Saban for legit rehabilitating his image. People on reddit and twitter (using them as a proxy for the wide CFB audience) are way higher on Butch after just a year without him even coaching a position, it's crazy.

I would much rather have Taylor at WR coach, Sark seems to be at OC, Butch isn't an Oline guy. I guess he could be a TE coach?
