Yeah, we ain't getting Beard. His buyout is apparently whatever remains on his contract. Right now thats a little north of $12 million. Here's a handy dandy list USA Today put out recently if you want to see how hard it would be to get some of these coaches.
LINK
Note that Bruce Weber and Leonard Hamilton have really small buyouts. And Chris Jans ain't making shite.

This website has a interesting prediction:
He picked Prohm. Then he tweeted that he thinks Iowa State retains him. Jeff Goodman is kind of a joke.

Watching this Houston game.

I can live with Kelvin Samson. That show cause was 10 years ago and he's kicking arse at Houston.

I wouldn’t be able to contain my excitement if we got Sampson. Would be a 10/10 homerun.

Off topic, but Jonny Jones at 50k is a big FU to LSU...lol.

Sampson would be a fantastic hire NCAA issues aside. He’s a great coach whose past NCAA issues aren’t recent and wouldn’t completely scare away a recruit’s parents like another name that’s been mentioned.

Not buying that, but I think Sampson would be a great hire. I think we get Matta. Which would also be a good hire imo.

Jeff Goodman is an absolute dick missile

As long as he hasn't been trouble at UH, he'd be a great hire. He served his punishment, any stain is stupid
I could see UH matching offers though. They have made huge recent investments in BBall. Hard to see them willing to give up their coach

I am pretty sure he would rather coach in the SEC than the American Athletic Conference.
Even if they do match the offer Alabama is a better job than Houston.

According to what I can find he’s being paid 1.4 million. They can’t realistically outbid us.

No one has ever come calling after Sampson due to his history. They haven't had to offer him more

No, of course not. They do have money though and he means more to them than he does to Bama.
they probably be willing to match somewhere near the "are we really about pay Kelvin Sampson this much money? Are we sure we want this?"

Kay Ivey took a picture with Aubie in Auburn gear congratulating them on the Sweet 16....Here is Hunter Johnsons response....

Is Alabama a better job than Houston? They have a Final Four in their history, we don’t. They play in an easy league, we don’t. They are renovating their basketball arena and built a new training facility, we haven’t. Houston can pay like a P5 school. They already have for Holgorsen. See my post on the Kelvin Sampson thread, this won’t be an easy pull if we decide to go after him.

Only because of conference affiliation and the associated TV + resources that brings.
.
If UH admission to the Big12 or Pac12 ever seems possible, the UH bball/fball jobs are going to look attractive

Kelvin Sampson is a winner. He brings focus & intensity as a coach similar to Tom Izzo.
There be quiet a few knocking him as a potential candidate, not me. I like his tough style of play & winning pedigree.

Yes.
Alabama has better facilities, better conference, makes a ton more money.
Alabama sports made $174,307,419 last year and Houston made $57,174,900.
If you mean does Houston have a better recent basketball tradition than Alabama I'd say both are about the same. Both have been to the NCAAT 11 times since 1990.

Cecil's response on Twitter when asked if Houston winning means we have to wait another week to find out who the coach is:
Leads me to believe the main candidate is currently not coaching college basketball. Matta maybe? Prohm?

Not at all. I get the sense it will be sooner. Maybe this week. Many possibilities.

The more I read about Matta the more I doubt he will come here. This is from an article written last year after he turned down the Georgia job.
I doubt the Alabama basketball job is one he would be "dying to get to."
quote:
Not once did Matta seem like man who's itching to get back into coaching. He seemed at peace removed from the stresses of the job that consumed him for nearly three decades. So would he ever get back into it again? "If it's the right situation for not only me, but my family, something I'd be dying to get to, I think that would be what would pull me back into it," Matta said.
