I'd prefer a stellar recruiter. We need 5 or 6 quality DL this cycle.

Lets get a few things straight:
1. Bo Davis was one of the best DL coaches, one of the best evaluaters, and definitely one of the best recruiters in college football.
2. Nick Saban wanted to bring him back, and made no secret of it.
3. Bo Davis would have been a grand-slam addition to the staff. I cant think of any coach in the country that would have been a better fit.
4. I bet Nick brings him back before all is said and done

hes a decent recruiter and a good position coach. don't get carried away. he's not as good a coach as Dunbar was

if saban wanted to bring him back now he would have been hired

bo Davis can't recruit of campus until 2019, and we need to clean up at dt next year. hiring a position coach that can't recruit the year before we need to recruit a bunch of defensive linemen makes no sense, which is why it didn't happen. you might as well have kept Dunbar in those circumstances

he might, although going to the nfl for however many years isn't going to help rebuild his recruiting contacts at high schools and with upcoming recruits, that you have to build a relationship with for 2 years. This year saban has to hire someone that already has those relationships started

I agree with PH. He was a great recruiter and position coach. To me he wa worth the risk but since he is with Lions it doesn't matter.

Bills hire another Alabama staffer (al.com)
quote:
For the third time in the last month, the Buffalo Bills have hired a member of Alabama's staff.
The Bills have hired Crimson Tide analyst Shea Tierney as an offensive assistant, AL.com has learned.
Tierney had worked for the Crimson Tide since 2016. He previously worked for the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Buffalo move reunites Tierney with two other members of the Tide's 2017 staff -- offensive coordinator Brian Daboll and analyst William Vlachos.
The Bills hired Daboll as their offensive coordinator in January. Like Tierney, Vlachos will be an offensive assistant.

All quiet on that front lately.

Eric Henderson -- Former GaTech and NFL DE, OK St. grad asst., DL coach at UTSA in 2016 with Golding, asst. DL coach at LA Chargers in 2017. Now being followed on twitter by some Bama players and BOL. Same thing happened with Gattis before he was hired. Jimbo was trying to hire him at ATM in late Jan. That may have stalled due to Bama interest.
ETA: Henderson is following Brent Key on twitter.

Nothing on the new DL coach? Thanks in advance.

I had noticed he had some players and recruits followed in relation to Bama, but I chalked it up to him recruiting Louisiana at UTSA. Then I saw he was following Brent Key too.

Thanks Surge. Didn't see it when I asked. Sounds really good. In Saban I trust.

What's everyone's opinion of Henderson?

Doesn’t he have an NFL job now?

LA Chargers Assistant DL coach. Age 35.
quote:
Eric Henderson is now an assistant defensive line coach for the Los Angeles Chargers. In the 2016 season, Henderson was the defensive line coach at UTSA, working with Pete Golding. A former NFL player, Henderson is a New Orleans native and played at Georgia Tech, giving him connections in two hotbeds for recruiting.

Young, recruits Louisiana, and coaches like Frank Wilson, Gus Bradley, and Jimbo Fisher have high opinions of him.
Youth movement definitely in effect if hired. Read things about him being a very relatable to recruits at Okie State and as a "player liaison" at GTech.

Hire the man. Sounds like a good one. I like the youth movement.
