Brick Haley would be the right person

A couple of months ago I created a thread on tRant Coaching Changes Board asking LSU, MSU, MO & TX fans about Brick Haley. Responses all said he's a meh coach & "finishes 2nd" recruiter. He might be a downgrade from Dunbar.

Haley seems like a retread. I like the idea of getting some new blood

Yea, I'm guessing it's a young up and comer. Fits the mold of the new hires.

I still prefer experience over youth.

You need teachers at the line spots, over 5 years experience at the very least coaching DL.

A good teacher can make bad talent look good, a bad teacher can make good talent look bad...

I have to think we'll be looking for that sweet spot of limited but solid experience and dynamic recruiter. He's done pretty well with that so far in this new crop of coaches.

One name that would be interesting is Craig Kuligowski at Miami, formerly at Missouri and was a lifelong Pinkel guy before he retired.

I start looking at ties to current staff first.

Jim Panagos - coached with Brent Key at UCF. Working for former Saban staffer Collins at Temple.

Eric Henderson - worked with Bo Davis at UTSA (who suggested Pete Golding). And of course worked with Golding.

Craig Kuligowski is a veteran ( age 49) college DL coach with central, southeast, Texas and Florida recruiting ties.

Anyone have any thoughts on Bam Hardmon down at Troy? They have had some strong run Ds and good interior pass rush as well under him. Florida alum.

Don't get me wrong, I hate the retread culture of the NFL and don't like the same 10 coaches getting passed around just because they're "experienced".

I'd love Kuligowski honestly, but that's because he's a very productive coach. Not sure he scratches everyone else's itch as a recruiter though...

And according to FootballScoop, Dunbar isn't even taking the Steelers DL job. John Mitchell isn't retiring or leaving, Dunbar is coming in to learn under him. Unless they split titles, he'd be assistant DL coach.

Mitchell is one of the few coaches who can say they have more experience than him...

Yea, he's an elite developer. He isn't an elite recruiter, but he's also not a deficient one. He was at Missouri before, so tough to judge, but he did a pretty good job at Miami the last few years it appears.

Really be curious to see what direction we go there.

Well that smacks of a mutual decision (aka Saban saying find another job, we're moving in another direction) for him to leave.

John Garcia says Bo Davis has been discussed. He also mentioned Freddie Roach.

What is the specific deal with Davis. What can he and can't he do?
