Do you think he is the tenth coach?

Like making sure he wasn't essentially pimping out hookers to minors.

I really don't know. I was just joking pretty much. I don't think Freeze will be hired but I think Saban probably already has his man and is just waiting until after signing day to announce it.

I don't see why Saban would wait until after signing day, unless the coach is on another staff and doesn't want to hurt the school he is at.

There maybe some bonus money from previous employer tied to the 10th coach? i am just guessing.

I think at this point - with all the investigations and in today's age of social media - if he was getting them for recruits/players it would have come out.
Hugh was just a horn-dog getting them for himself. Have you seen his wife?

Ex-UTSA star: Alabama got a 'great one' in Pete Golding | al.com
quote:
A big smile spread across Marcus Davenport's face as soon as he heard Pete Golding's name on Tuesday.
Golding, one of Alabama's new assistants, coached Davenport at Texas-San Antonio. And Davenport, a defensive end that could go in the top-10 of this year's NFL draft, offered some insight into what the Crimson Tide is getting in his former defensive coordinator.
"I think UTSA lost a great coach," Davenport said. "I love Coach Golding. He really taught me a lot about the game and made me better understand football. ... I love Coach Golding."
Ex-Tide coach contributed to Golding landing at Alabama
Though Alabama has yet to announce Golding's role, it looks likely that Golding will be a co-defensive coordinator and coach the Tide's inside linebackers.
Under Golding, UTSA ranked seventh nationally in total defense last season and eighth in scoring defense.
That's even more noteworthy considering UTSA ranked 101st nationally in total defense in 2015, the year before Golding took over as the team's defensive coordinator.
"He made us smarter," Davenport said. "There were times where he would ask us how we felt about the game and we would be able to give our input and actually be able to learn and adjust ourselves. ... Alabama got a great one."

Does anyone believe that Scott will be the ILB Coach and Golding will be the secondary coach? It seems like that has been the setup anytime they have coached together. Also Scott was a linebacker in college. Quite frankly I know he was at Texas Tech so a lot of the passing stats for Scott's DBs were probably inflated, but those numbers are tough to look at.

while i agree about looking at the #s being painful, you have to remember passing #s aren't JUST on the DBs. if a qb - especially a qb in the pass happy big 12 - has all day to throw, those numbers are going to be high. i have no idea if tech's d-line was good or not, but i do know that Saban coaches the DBs and whoever is listed as the DB coach is, essentially, Saban's assistant and a great recruiter.

I definitely agree Saban's in charge back there but I do think the secondary coach does have an impact. There has been a noticeable difference statistically when Pruitt/Ansley were secondary coaches as oppose to when Kirby/Mel have been assigned to the position group. I may be wrong but I would prefer Golding back there and ILB seems to be more of a natural fit for Scott. (That being said, I know this is mostly about recruiting).

If Lupoi is promoted to DC and play caller, he may switch to coaching ILBs. It may wind up like this:
Lupoi - DC/ILB
Golding - CoDC/DB (or OLB)
Scott - OLB (or DB)
Dunbar - DL
Locksley - OC/QB
Gattis - WR/PGC
Key - OL
Burns - RB
______ - TE
Banks - STC
There's still one more on-field staff position open to fill. Or Saban may have his guy, but may not announce it until after NSD. No one is assigned for TEs yet, but Banks was STC/TE Coach at ATM. So, the additional hire (or promotion from analyst staff) could be for offense or defense.

Brian Daboll talks move from Alabama to Buffalo and NFL
quote:
Brian Daboll's departure from Alabama was sudden.
The offensive coordinator offered no explanation when he left the Crimson Tide to take the same position with the Buffalo Bills earlier this month.
Just silence.
But on Tuesday at the Senior Bowl in Mobile he addressed the move with Buffalo media.
"I'm a Buffalo guy," Daboll told WKBW-TV. "The communities around the stadium, to the Rochester area, it's a really special area. It's where I grew up. The people, the community are second to none. They're unbelievable. City of good neighbors for a reason. Great food... as you can tell. But I love the place. I love the community. I love the people. I love the fans. I love the team... It was a good opportunity and I made it in the best interest of our family."
Daboll spent his formative years in western New York. Returning there factored into his decision. Many speculated that a desire to coach again in the NFL also spurred him to make the leap to Buffalo, a team that made the playoffs for the first time in 17 years this past season despite finishing 29th in total offense.
But Daboll didn't really hint at that in his comments.

A lot of schools splitting DB's between S & CB, I am still hoping Surtain takes the job after signing day & coaches CB or S.

The delay may mean we are waiting to see where Surtain signs. He signs with us, his dad gets a job. He sings with LSU...no way he gets the job. Behind the scenes agreement perhaps? We can hope.

I don't think that will work.

No. His dad either gets the job b/c Saban values his knowledge and ability, or he doesn't. I don't think the two are connected. he wouldn't give Kennan Allen's brother one of the 25 scholarships available to secure Allen. He's not going to give up one of only 10 coaching positions available just to secure a kid.
