I'm with you Buckeye. Freeze would be a home run hire IMO.

I hope they can incorporate some pieces of Freezes offense, it's a fascinating scheme.

Every play has an option and/or a screen built in, stresses the hell out of defense forcing every player to make that right read. Often causes 1 on 1 coverage on the #1 WR...

I’m still trying to convince myself that freeze being an on-field assistant wouldn’t hurt recruiting. Can’t get past that personally.

Just don’t get in 3rd or 4th and 1 or less. Freeze has no fricking clue how to attack that down and distance.

He could recruit at Ole Miss, we know that.

I'd imagine Saban could spin it as "I don't give up on people and I believe in second chances. If your son ever makes a mistake I'm going to be there for him to help guide him through a tough patch and give him a second chance too". With the parents of most of the kids we recruit, that message would play ok.

I feel like we've got 3 guys who would be absolutely perfect in that scheme. I don't think we'd have to straight up run what they did at Ole Miss, but there's a lot we can take from it and put into what we want to do.

Exactly, you can add to your own without having to completely switch schemes or philosophy.

FAU didn't run the offense Bama did under Kiffin, as the addition of Kendal Briles added a lot new looks to Kiffin's offense.

Uh oh:

Report: Jim McElwain, Nick Saban have talked about Alabama’s OC job

quote:

Former Florida coach Jim McElwain hasn’t been in the news much since parting ways with the Gators toward the end of the 2017 season, but he’s had significant conversations behind closed doors.

That’s according to a report from TideSports.com’s Aaron Suttles, who says McElwain has spoken to Alabama coach Nick Saban about the Crimson Tide’s opening at offensive coordinator.

Saban is looking for a replacement for Brian Daboll, who bolted after just one year to take the same position with the Buffalo Bills.

McElwain parted ways with Florida after failing to show proof he received death threats during the 2017 season. The Gators were coming off back-to-back SEC East titles under his leadership before things spiraled out of control.

While his past in Gainesville might be a red flag, McElwain has an edge that many others up for this position will not have: He already has worked for Saban. McElwain was Alabama’s offensive coordinator and quarterback coach from 2008-11 before leaving Tuscaloosa to take the Colorado State job.

McElwain isn’t the only former SEC coach that Saban has talked to for this opening, per TideSports.com. Former Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze was reportedly in the Alabama football building on Monday to discuss the position.

There’s no telling what Saban will do with this hire, but he could be looking to add some stability. The next play caller will be his fourth in three seasons (Daboll, Steve Sarkisian and Lane Kiffin).

Coach Mac had some good games playcalling. I thought.

2008 SECCG with passes to Colin Peek, McElroy tip toe'ing down the sideline.
2012 BCSCG against LSU. Air raid against honey badger with a young McCarron.

I also agree with Magilla, though. We are past that.

Talked about the Alabama OC job and "Talked about Mac for the OC job" are not the same thing. He no doubt has asked Mac about his thoughts on the team, the players, and possible candidates.

I don't disagree, but college football has changed so much since his last stint here. We have changed our entire personnel/scheme. Pendry/Stoutland were great o line coaches for the smash mouth teams we fielded. We gap block a lot now. Tua is a spread QB. We have all the talent in place to repeat next year. We just need a capable play caller.

That would be an extremely disappointing hire. That offense is really stale. There is no reason to turn the clock back 10 years.

What I'd love to see is, and we did some of this late this season, is packages with Josh Jacobs in there to go along with either Harris the Elder or Harris the Younger. And Jacobs' job is based on what the defense does. If you split the backfield you can motion Jacobs out to either side presnap and create all sorts of conflict. I think Jacobs could really be the sort of swiss army knife in our offense that gives defenses fits and creates openings for the other guys to get 1 on 1 looks or stretch the defensive assignments and allow the Harris' to run wild.

shite I would give it to Locksley right now if McElwain was the only other option. Suttles mentioned Coach Mac yesterday so it’s not a new or developing story (thank God).

Josh Jacobs would have to be able to actually play in games to be a threat.

Maybe McElwain inquired about the OC opening or a temporary analyst job rather than Saban having much interest in him as OC. We've gone in a different direction that doesn't match up with his offensive acumen. Jim might also be talking to Saban about helping him get a new gig elsewhere.
