The more I read about his time at Arizona State, Memphis, and Notre Dame, the more I hope this hire happens. His ties to Alabama just make it all the more interesting. I will be disappointed if this does not happen.

Agree. Add in his age, relative inexperience (meaning he probably won't be hopping to a head coach gig after 1 year) and the positive reviews of him as a recruiter..........sign me up.

If Chip Long did come who would be the QB coach? It looks like Chip has always been a TE coach.

I would suspect he will be the OC/QBs coach. As OC at Memphis and Notre Dame, he was still working with the QBs.

Everyone can keep on speculating, but I'm not getting excited until the great insider Kevin Hagan makes the announcement.

Assuming Locksley leaves, this would be nice:

Chip Long - OC (maybe even TE too looking at his past)
Chris Weinke - Co-OC/QB Coach
New WR Coach

If Saban hires Chip Long and Locks leaves, maybe we should make a run at James Coley (wiki bio) for WRs coach.

I don't see him on their coaching staff web page.

Aaron Suttles was just on the radio and said to expect numerous staff changes. Something like Saban was pissed at this years recruiting effort and was trying to get better recruiters.

Coley was a GA under Saban at LSU. But he was also there with Jimbo and he turned A&M down for co-OC. Don't think he would make a lateral move to Alabama.

Weinke was headed to Tennessee. But then it was released that he was weighing other options. It was believed that Florida State was set to hire him instead. Nothing official ever came out. At least that I have seen.

Well, hell. I guess I'm crazy. I don't know what finally pushed me over the edge but I might as well embrace it

Sounds like the 3 main candidate from Suttles article are:

Locksley
Chip Long
Jim McElwain.

Pleas god not Mcelwain. Before people say he did good before, I understand that but his offenses at Florida were terrible with NO imagination whatsoever
