But we assign it to our ugly arse helmets with the numbers on the sides in "yearbook" font?

New Tradition Idea

That's not a new tradition idea at Bama at all.

I'll let you see if you can figure out why.

Edit: let's see if any of the rest of you Bama fans can figure it out. We've done this before. Think long and hard before you come down too hard on PowHound...you might end up looking foolish.

"In the early 1970s, Crimson Tide Coach Paul Bryant used two numbers as a motivational technique. Alabama has never retired football numbers, but Bryant stipulated that henceforth, anyone being awarded No. 22 (worn by halfback Johnny Musso) or No. 54 (primarily, Jordan) would have to earn it."

Randy Billingsley had to give up #22.

I misremembered #54...I thought I had read that Mike Dubose had to switch from 54 to 57, but apparently that was not the case.

Take a shot every time Bama makes a 3? There's our new tradition.

Why is it weird to have the players’ number on their helmets?

Bear Bryant apparently didn't get the memo.
