I think Wisconsin is much worse than last year and they were a 5-7 team last year.
They are banged up and we’re not very good yesterday for sure.

Another good “ my take on yesterday” , AT.
Look fwd to the weekly thread.
I think this game really helped our O before going to Georgia. the offense got a lot of work in on issues like pass protection, wr routes, timing, etc. Ty’s getting better and better each week.
Didn’t get much work in on the running game, but we’re going to have to pass against ga. Hopefully, the running game will be there too.

Liked the offensive gameplan vs the Badgers. They were determined to try and stop the run and apparently had no faith that Ty could throw the ball. Didn't work out so well for them.

Good stuff but I don’t think Sellers would have made a difference against Vandy. South Carolina fans on their boards are saying he wouldn’t have
They're viewing it from the lens of a 31-7 final.
Fact is, before Sellers got hurt they were being very effective on offense. He had 3 1/2 series and they went:
75 yards in 7 plays, TD
43 yards in 6 plays, intercepted at the Vandy 15
11 yards in 6 plays, punt
40 yards in 10 plays, missed FG (Sellers hurt on this drive)
When he went down, Sellers was 6/7 for 94 yards and total yardage was 173-169 in favor of Vandy.
Does South Carolina win if he stays healthy? Maybe, maybe not. To the point he got hurt it was a dead even game with both teams having two drives into the red zone.
Once he got hurt, USCe didn't get inside the Vandy 40 until a 2 minute trash time drive against Vandy's reserves. Doty just couldn't get anything done.

We will never know, but I still think Vandy would have beaten them regardless, and I think people who dismiss Vandy this year do so at their peril.

I wouldn't be either way. My only point was that they were very competitive with Sellers in the game. Without him they were a FCS level offense.
His injury most definitely was the key moment in the game.

Agreed … I just detect in some posts here (not necessarily yours) people dismissing Vandy because “they’re just Vandy” and again I think they do that at their peril. It’s not just Pavia freelancing, that’s a solid team this year on both sides of the ball, especially defense. They hit you.

Pavia and Vandy look MUCH better in the passing game. Last year their passing game was complimentary, this year they're taking some shots.

People are going to laugh at this but I was impressed when they mentioned that Clark Lea had talked with his team in the preseason about setting a goal of winning the national championship, his attitude was “Why not?”
That’s probably ahead of their skis but it shows they want to come out and punch people in the mouth and gut this year.

Furthermore, based on what we've seen of this team's defense against running quarterbacks, you gotta have your butthole pucker up knowing that Vandy is very obviously better on offense this year than last.

I have NEVER seen a penalty for a player running into a referee.
Saw a coach do the same thing last night on tv…ref through the flag and gave them a sideline warning.

I was a Texas HS ref for a bit and I can’t tell you how many times some kid inadvertently knocked me down and a few times accidentally knocked the crap out of me. It happens. It’s kind of an occupational hazard and you can’t take it personally. That ref apparently did.

The ref ran into the coach while running to follow the play. They hit because the coach was in the white "no go" zone on the sidelines.
Ref did the right thing. Sideline warning, no actual penalty just don't do it again.

Happy for the win, but folks are giving wisc a little too much credit for being good - esp with backup qb.

Teams reminds me of 2020. Great offense and ok defense.
Wis felt their best way to beat Ty is to pressure him into 'panic' mode and stop the run. Grubb gave him much better routes to slow the rush and give him out passes. Ty is also good at feeling the pocket and scrambling. I have a lot of faith in our offense. Need a little better blocking.
As for the defense, I just don't know what to expect from Wommack but we are looking slightly better.

They aren't good but the one strength they have is run defense. Which is why I keep preaching that yesterday might not have been the best gauge of our ability to run the ball.

Someone from South Carolina on the rant specifically called out Mike Shula for not using Sellers’ running ability and for trying to make him stand in the pocket like a pro quarterback behind an absolutely atrocious offensive line.

1) Four or five times Bama failed to take down Wisky's RBs in the backfield and ditto for the QB. I understand with today's offenses you aren't going to get TFLs like Bama did 10 years ago, but against SEC teams you have to put teams in in 2nd & 12 or 2nd & 13 instead of giving them 2nd & 6 or 2nd & 7 to play with.
2) Four or five dropped passes. These would have been big plays or kept drives alive
3) Four for five times Ty could have taken off and made good gains but he stayed in the pocket or scrambled too late. I suspect some of this might be the coaching staff emphasizing going through his reads. But when teams bring edge pressure and play man underneath Ty needs to recognize it and exploit it.

Jefferson missed a few key ones that would have held them to no gain or for a loss. Lawson is just a guy out there so far this season. His pursuit to the ball is very underwhelming. We miss Jihaad Campbell much more than I thought we would.

Absolutely have to clean this up in the next two weeks.
