Have a friend moving to T-Town to work in an admin role at the school. 24 and single looking for an apartment. Wanted to ask if any of you might have any suggestions. He’s coming from College Station if that helps. TIA.

Are you saying that he is gay?

Does he want to live with the college kids?

I think the Cottages are a good deal and not far from campus. It’s basically all college students, so his age range and they have events and stuff to meet people.

I would expect they’d still be leasing if he’s willing to have roommates. At this point to get a one bedroom he’s probably going to have to be farther from campus.

If he wants to live walking distance to campus, I rented from College Station Properties for awhile and they have good apartments that they seem to upkeep well.

That wouldn’t have any sort of roommate matching though like a bigger place like the Cottages does.

Places to avoid just from what my friends have told me and visiting them

Campus Evolution Villages
The Woodlands
The Hub on Campus
Parker 301 (This place is at least cheap though. Also where Brandon Deaderick got stabbed back in the day)

I'd honestly look in Northport for some apartments. I never lived there, but had some friends live at River Run Apartments in downtown Northport that are pretty well maintained, decently priced, and not that far of a drive from campus. Reserve at North is a drive, but they're also good.

Apartments are broken into 3 categories:

1. Trashy folks that are forced to live in apartments
2. Students that don't need a house
3. "Trendier" young adults (in their 20's) that haven't settled dawn for the responsibility of a house.

The type of apartment your friend is looking for is probably #3, maybe #2.

Perhaps they have been named already, but there are several new apartments in the downtown area that I would recommend. One is "Capital Park"

Does north of the river mean anything to y’all?

Don't know what its called but there is a cool apartment building downtown by the embassy suites that used to be an office and was converted to apartments. Had a friend that lived there and it would have been cool for a non-college kid in ttown.

ETA- I think it's "The Tower Luxury Apartments"

Yes. Northport. That's going to be his best bet for not living with too many college students.

Yes.
Let's get some terminology defined.
Obviously north of the river is on the north side of the said river. However, when referring to "North of the River", you are specifically speaking of the Tuscaloosa portion which is North of the river. Not Northport or any other areas West or north of Northport.
The Tuscaloosa part, which is mostly the 35406 zip code, is a little north and east of the university location. It's probably the highest priced, most affluent area of town. There are mostly higher end neighborhoods in this area, perhaps a few scattered apartments, although I'm not aware of any in that section of town.

If he can afford it, the lofts above some of the shops downtown are awesome. Capital Park and The Towers are great too. Downtown is way better than the strip.

If those are out of his price range I would check out stuff around northport.

ETA: There are some nice townhomes called Thornbury north of the river. Very good value. I think they are all privately owned, but some are rented by their owners

I never knew this.

I looked it up. Google maps shows 7 apartment complexes in the 35406. The Reserve at North River looks to be the nicest of them.
