Remember all the shite we got from LSU fans when Kiffin was hired by Saban? About how he would be a disaster and a program destroyer?

I can genuinely see this being the case if he goes to LSU..... And my god how funny it would be.

Sark had more input at halftime of Iron Bowl than the OC, hence the adjustments, hence a better performance. Kiffin was limited by the head coach on playcalls based on Sark input...he was told what to call.

Sark in his current role cannot contribute on game days.

It is a NCAA violation of overstaffing because he'd then be considered a coach and not an analyst.

If not for a few usually pretty accurate insiders, I would not think the move to LSU would happen either but I do think the odds are very high he leaves Bama this season. I don't think he or Nick ever thought he would be here for very long.

That's not exactly true. He just can't coach players or call plays during game.

I think he will leave for a HC job. Absolutely. But going to LSU makes ZERO sense for him and ZERO sense for Alabama.

There is no LOGICAL explanation for this.

If the rumors are true that Saban has told him to look elsewhere after the season and Lane (and his agent) feel the opportunities for a HC job aren't there this year, why is it so unbelievable he would go to LSU to be the OC? Sounds like a pretty good place to coach for another 1-2 years while he waits for that HC job.

To answer this question I'm being told Saban did not give Lane a choice in the matter.

As of right now I am still hearing Lane is gone and it could be as early as Sunday. Until one of my good sources breaks from that I won't be changing my mind. These guys are usually pretty spot on. Teddy has some good sources as well and we even share some of the same. Usually when a few of us are hearing something like this it will likely happen. Someone grabbed it off another site but Sark, Kiffin, and Saban had a meeting yesterday that lasted for a good bit. Most people understand Sark isn't just here to be an analyst. Also thought I'd add, nothing is saying lane has to leave by Sunday. He may stay until after the season which, made more sense to me. Just thought I'd throw that out.

Makes no sense to think Kiffin would leave before the end of the season; it would undo all the good work he has done to rehabillitate himself in college football. If he leaves Alabama under less than cordial circumstances it would not be a positive on his resume. Might set back his head coach ambitions by a few years. Sark or no Sark I think Kiffin finishes the season with us and For our National Championship aspirations I hope he stays.

My guess is that it could/would be easily spun that he needed to take the job now as to not lose out on big recruits. I'd like for him to finish the season but I'm not holding my breath.

I have a question. Wouldn't a coach have to be relieved of his coaching duties, kiffin, in order to have another coach, sark, slide into the calling plays role?
Kinda like a roster with a limited amount of spots.
I was hoping for a gradual change of the OC position in Dec, but with this rule I am not sure of that now.

I'm inclined to think this is mostly an overreaction and BS rumors.

We all knew he'd almost certainly be gone after this season. I don't see why Saban would tell him now that he's out, and I don't see why Kiffin would jump to LSU before the head coaching carousel really even gets started.

Although, with dumbass, hothead Lane, I suppose it's possible.

Lane is not going for a head coaching job,his effect on recruiting would be minimal. This is not the same scenario as Kirby where he had to orchestrate Georgia's entire recruiting class; even then Kirby stayed.
If this goes down like a lot of insiders are predicting,I would feel bad for Kiffin and us,because this turmoil is certainly not going to help our chances for the Championship run.

True.

I guess I just have a hard time of seeing one or both of them saying they couldn't make it work any longer.

Someone else said this and it makes sense... why would Saban want Lane to continue coaching on his staff when he is headed to one of our biggest rivals in the same division? I get that it would be nice to have continuity with the play calling and game planning, but do you trust Lane to do half the job Kirby Smart did (apparently he didn't do that good of a job)?

This is a strange situation that I hopes works out for us in the end.

Kiffin taking another HC job may be the worst situation for Alabama. If he is OC at LSU Sark likely stays at Bama. If Lane goes to Houston or Oregon, Sark and worse Tosh Lupoi may go with him. That would be terrible.

Eh, I think Sark would stay here. Why would he want to be the OC for Kiffin? Not to mention the support system at Alabama and what succeeding here would do as opposed to being an OC at a place like Houston.

And, as for Tosh, are Tosh and Kiffin best buddies or something? They didn't have any sort of relationship pre-Alabama. Tosh coached for Sark at Washington and played and coached at Cal.

Sark going to be OC for Kiffin would be career suicide.

The need to manage personal issues is huge by itself but that's not the only problem. Who's going to get the credit for a successful offense at a program with LK as head coach? Hint - it ain't going to be the guy calling the plays.
