Interest in returning punts this year. At the very least, a lack of focus. Which game will it bite us?
Wouldn’t be upset to see someone else back there.

Also too valuable to lose to injury on PR. Yeah we’ve had valuable players like JA and EJ at PR but at least they were All-American caliber returners. Kool-Aid hasn’t done anything return wise this year

Yeah, I’d rather see Law, Bond or whoever return punts. Kool-Aid isn’t even sure-handed when he does attempt to catch a punt.

Yeah I’d rather someone else.

He'd be one hell of a dude that brings the jets in on the tarmac...lol

Kool-Aid is the best punt returner on the team. He just has to get his confidence back and we need to block better as a special teams unit.

McKinstry has not handled directional punts well at all. He’s probably does not have that centerfielder type of ability to read the punt off the leg and judge the depth and direction he should be taking. I dunno if he could’ve returned more kicks with those reads on Saturday but he could’ve probably saved 10-15 hidden yards for the offense by confidently snagging the punts before the ball hit the ground and rolled.

At least find someone that will fair catch everything instead of letting the balls bounce for 30 yards.

Yeah saban chewed his arse for letting one go right past him Saturday

I'll probably get downvoted from here to eternity but I wonder if he's not fielding punts because he doesn't want to take a chance on getting hurt and thus hurting his NFL draft stock.

I think he’s in his own head. He was hyper-aggressive early in the season and was seemingly trying to get himself hurt or just hurt the team in the endeavor due to needless fumbles.
At either rate, the prognosis is the same: time to get a WR out there who is good in space but underutilized because we’re mostly a shot-based passing offense.

About 4 weeks back a poster made a thread stating that Kool-aid needed to be replaced. Man was that poster run out of town.
He needs to return and pickup his You Were Right Trophy.

In a way you're probably right, but also wrong.
I'd hate for him to get hurt and then Alabama would not have its top DB anymore.
Similar to when Waddle got hurt on the kickoff return.
I'm just about ok with fair catching every punt and kickoff.

The Arkansas punter was absolutely booming them, and McKinstry seemed to still be playing out like the punt was going to be 40 yards in the air. Nearly every one went over him.

I'm starting to wonder if some of you even watch football.
Kool-Aid was one of the best punt returners/if not the best punt returner in all of college football last season. He was so good heck they stop kicking it to him.
Do y'all remember that? Or did it slip your minds that quick?
He's struggled to start the season but his body of work as a punt returner already speaks for itself.
They scared of Kool-Aid! Lol
Quit with the foolish talk.

Yeah that was LAST year. Everyone knows why he started at PR this year bc of it. Point is he hasn’t done anything THIS year. If anything he’s even cost the offense good field position bc he doesn’t even try to field some of the punts. And at this point we’re half way into the season not at the start

I don’t know a ton about punt returning, so I could be off base. I know they kick away from him often, but it seems there are times he could make a fair catch and save us some yards and he doesn’t. If you’re back there, catch the ball.

I can say this, I played punt returner a bit in high school. It is pretty hard to learn to play the ball. It isn't nearly as simple as it looks on TV. That ball can do some weird things in the air. Not to mention there are eleven guys running at you while you are looking for a football, sometimes at night where its hard to pick up in the dark sky. Again, its hard, couldn't imagine doing it on that level and honestly hated it.

Thought Cole Adams was supposed to be a good returner.
Somebody that will actually catch the punts will be an upgrade right now.
