He apparently has the same problem as Derek Zoolander.

False. Jalen is averaging 84.6 YPA on throws 10-20 yards in the middle of the field.

1,269 yds divided by 10 completions is 126.9 yds per catch.

Nice avg.

Jeeze. 20+ yards, and passes under pressure worse than last year.

To be somewhat fair that’s not identifying drops on those passes. I can think of 4 drops off the top of my head that were over 20yds

Saban would vehemently disagree with that. 6 interceptions vs 0 interceptions.

One deserves another.

I'd be ok with you're incessant criticism if you ever thought about acknowledging improvement as well. But it's just tired at this point. All I can muster is a doublebird.

So are you ok with 29% on 20+ yards? Are you good with 35% under pressure? Can you discuss these points? This isn't about me or you. It's about the starting quarterback at The University of Alabama, and we're on a UA sports board. Can you not discuss these things?

I am in agreement with you. This season so far has shown a digression in his passing game in some areas. Except for interceptions. If anything this charts does not do him any favors. However with that said the last game showed a great improvement for him so it will be interesting to see how he finishes.

I don't understand why they would breakdown the QB play this extensively and not include drops. Seems like a relatively simple inclusion that they're leaving out.

We definitely need to improve down the field. I like what I've seen the last 2 weeks but overall that's the biggest area, along with reading the field, where Jalen still needs to take a big step.

We've been much better on intermediate stuff this year than last year, though.

Auburn game will be a big moment for Jalen, because I'm guessing between the type of game expected and his work the last 2 weeks that the coaches are going to tell him he's going to have to make plays.

Per CFB Film Room's stats

2017
Total Drops : 17 (Ridley 4, Smith 3, Ruggs 2, Foster 2, N. Harris 2)
Total Attempts (per chart) : 183
Drops Per Attempt : 9.3%

2016
Total Drops : 21 (Ridley 9, Dieter 5, Stewart 3, Howard 3)
Total Attempts (per chart) : 327
Drops Per Attempt : 6.4%

2015
Total Drops : 30 (Stewart 10, Ridley 8, Drake 4)
Total Attempts (per chart) : 342
Drops Per Attempt : 8.8%

So, definitely more drops this year. Where on the field those occurred I can't pin down per the stats.

One more interesting stat. Per their review and notes.......

quote:

CTgt – Contested target. Any time the receiver had to compete with a defensive back for the ball.

CRec – Contested targets which still resulted in a completed pass.

2017
Contested Targets : 22 (Ridley 6, Foster 5, Sims 4, Jeudy 3, Smith 2)
Contested Receptions : 0
Contested Catch Rate : 0%

2016
Contested Targets : 52 (Ridley 17, Stewart 11, Howard 6)
Contested Receptions : 12 (Stewart 5, Howard 3, Ridley 3)
Contested Catch Rate : 23%

2015
Contested Targets : 94 (Ridley 32, Stewart 25, Mullaney 22)
Contested Receptions : 28 (Ridley 12, Mullaney 8, Stewart 5)
Contested Catch Rate : 30%

Except for a massively important stat in the passing game?

The lack of interceptions is a big reason why the deep ball and under pressure percentages are down. He's not forcing the issue and instead throwing the ball away.

The charts also show a marked improvement for passes between 10-19 yards. And as mentioned before the drops have been much more prominent this year.

I get that he's still not a great passer, but the improvement is definitely there.
