i'd love to see the staff put Tua in in passing situations early in games. force the defense to respect our passing game. something they dont really have to do with jalen, sadly

No thanks on another Zow/Watts type deal.

Maybe we can invent the "Dual threat RB" with Jalen.

Give it time. Hell, some offensive "genius" has probably already tried or is actively working on the rpo from the RB position.

I don't doubt that Tua has as much potential as any QB in the country, but say we go 15-0 and win the title, do people really think Saban wouldn't start Jalen next season? I mean the guy would essentially be 29-1 with 2 title appearances and a ring, an SEC OPotY award, etc. I love both of the guys, and I definitely see Tua playing more and more, but outright taking Jalen's job? I'm not sure I see that happening. You never know, that's for sure.

This is pretty much the deal. Granted if Jalen wins it all how does his attitude shape in the off season etc. What I saw this off season was a serious work ethic the likes of D Henry. Can he sustain that on improving himself and not inflate himself? Lots of questions have to be answered in order to make that determination. My gut tells me Saban sticks with Jalen. No doubt Tua is good but it’s a tricky situation.

Plus, in theory, Tua could start his Junior year if Jalen goes pro. I don't see Jalen as a guy who gets enough NFL hype to go out after next season, but Lamar Jackson is getting hype and if he can maybe Jalen can too. Hurts has a strong arm and is a great athlete. If he continues to improve maybe teams like the upside and he gets a high grade, rides off into the sunset after hopefully back to back titles then Tua can have 2 years.

Then Little Tua can come in and sling it

No. It's very unlikely that a guy with his talent will wait around 3 years to play one.

Personally, I think he'll be the starting QB at Alabama by next season, and yes, I do think that means we will fail again this season to win the national title.

I don't see Jalen getting any love to leave early. His style of play works in CFB on a team like Alabama, but you have to win with your arm at the next level.

I don't see Tua playing before his senior year/injury.

He wasn't redshirted because we only have 3 scholarship QBs on the roster, and 2 of them are true freshmen.

He still could have redshirted. How many years since Saban has been here have we "needed" the backup QB for anything other than garbage reps? Two I think. Out of 10 seasons. And I'm including last year when Hurts started the season as the backup even though the staff obviously considered him the starter. Even in 2009 AJ McCarron was our 2nd best QB and he redshirted to preserve a year of eligibility. Had McElroy gotten hurt, he would have played. Could've taken the same route with Tua.

If he waits till after next season to transfer it’s going to be his senior year before he plays either way.

It's ridiculous to think a kid with his talent will sit on the bench for 3 years to play one. It's just not going to happen. I said last year that if Barnett didn't get a fair chance to prove himself, he would leave. Well, he left too early. I am pretty sure he'd had have had that chance had he not left when he did. I think it's readily apparent that Tua Tagovailoa is way better than Blake Barnett. He's getting playing time, and in my opinion he's already proven that his upside is way beyond Jalen Hurts. I think he'll stick around for the off season battle, and I think he'll win that battle.

Barnett had a year and half to prove himself, and a full year more than Hurts had. Let's not act like he didn't get the chance.

All we heard from the time Barnett came to Alabama was that he was the future qb at Alabama. To deny that is revisionist history. He did have a couple of practice games pre season that he turned the ball over, but in real games, when he did get a little time, he didn't turn the ball over at all. At. All. Hurts turned the ball over 14 times last season.

This thread, however, isn't about Blake Barnett, or Jalen Hurts for that matter. It's about Tua Tagovailoa, and I've already said that, in my opinion, Tua Tagovailoa is way better than Blake Barnett. The only reason I even mentioned Barnett is because I said last year he would split if he didn't get a chance. Well, I'm telling you again that Tua Tagovailoa will do the same. The difference this time is that he is getting more playing time, and as previously noted, he's already proven he has more upside than Barnett or Hurts.

DJ Shockley waited for his senior year. So did a plethora of QBs at USC under Pete Carroll.

I think it depends on how that title game was played. For example, if we win by a score of 17-14 and Hurts has several turnovers and an abysmal stat line, I could see a competition in the spring. If, however, Hurts has a Coker NCG type appearance, then I don't see any reason Tua would take the job.

Barnett hasn’t turned it over this year either. It’s a funny thing, it’s hard to turn the ball over when you’re sitting on the bench. Next thing you’re going to tell me is that Joe Bulovas hasn’t missed any FGs this year, as if that makes him better than the guys that play.

Tua hasn’t proven anything yet other than he can throw some pretty passes in games that are already out of hand. I do think he has a lot of potential, but to think it’s a given that he has NFL potential is foolish. The lights haven’t been bright for him yet.

I can absolutely deny it. I didn't want to sign him.

Anyone who follows the recruiting thread can back me up too.

The best thing Blake Barnett did for us was recruit Damien Harris.

It's not foolish for the #1 DT QB and 32nd best player overall to have NFL potential.

Look, he is not going to beat jalen out unless something horrible happens.

He gets to experience being at the best program for a year with getting THE ring, and he moves on to actually play for a couple of years to get better to get drafted.

You see, it's selfish for our fans to keep him. Good or bad he at least needs to try, so he can look back 20 yrs from now and say he did. He tried being the QB1 at the best program, and now he needs to try leading another program.

Edit typo, least not lest

That's a lot like your moronic comments about a year ago when I said that Hurts lack of a passing game would eventually get us beat. I was right. You were wrong.

Congratulations indeed.

Let me correct part of that. It’s your opinion Hurts passing Game got us beat. Plenty of experts and analyst that do not agree.

Conversely, I'm not the only one that thinks a more balanced offense would have resulted in less 3 and out series, and probably more than 3 points in the 2 turnovers on their side of the field.

The thread, though, is about Tua Tagovailoa (got off on the tangent responding to the guy that evidently can't reasonably discuss the topic) and whether he will wait at Alabama till his senior year to start. I just don't think he will, and I'm not the only one that thinks that either.
