beat some pretty good teams but lost to many poor teams

First: Define "pretty good"

Oklahoma (RPI 11), Rhode Island (RPI 9) and Auburn (RPI 6) are VERY good teams.

Second: Define "many" and "poor"

The only loss outside of the top 100 was Vandy, at a place we've struggled getting wins since the dawn of time (Edit: We lost to Minnesota, but that loss won't count come selection time. The loss of Lynch destroyed that team and the 3v5 caveat will toss that one out.)

We should have won last night, I get it, but it should tell y'all something that the most surprising loss thus far this year comes against a team with an RPI of 31.

Ok. I started this thread apparently out of ignorance and frustration. The season is far from over but Avery has been pretty damn good down the stretch and now I have egg on my face (been good at that this year) and decided to eat my crow. Sorry guys, I will put an end to this abortion of thread at least until the next issue I decide to overreact to. I will always be the board pessimist to the extreme but this one was one of my worst. Salsa, if you don't mind just delete this one.

Regardless of how we finish we are gonna be a dangerous team for anybody in March and if Sexton and Petty both get hot at the same time then forget about it. It will be over because Hall is peaking at the right time. Can't wait guys.

I keep waiting for this bunch to put it together as a team and move forward. Instead we get some individuals play well and the beat someone that is somebody then lose to others. If this bunch is hot then great but if not then This is Alabama Basketball.

The jury is out of the HC. As of today he is a really good recruiter.......that is a good and he is better than Anthony F Grant.

Had you read a couple of posts above this you would have seen me downgrading my post myself and downvotes does not make a poster wrong. I had many more downvotes than that when I told you guys that Jalen Hurts couldn't get it done and that we needed to go with Tua. We see that I was right despite all the downvotes.

Now this thread was indeed a dumb one and I have no problem owning so I did but Avery really isn't that good of a coach. He underachieved with this roster and how anybody would argue otherwise is beyond me but not surprising at all.

JMO but Avery is more a buddy to his team and not their Mentor. This team is soft. When shet gets real they fold up like a cheap tent.

What group of freshmen isn't a little soft? That being said these guys aren't soft, they may get easily discouraged when things snowball but I don't think they're soft especially when they've beaten several teams that were supposedly gonna " push us around" .

CAJ was a former NBA coach of the year and won a shitload of games. I will acknowledge that his teams seemed to lack that killer instinct and got bounced in the payoffs, most notoriously in the finals against Miami.

That said, you need to ask yourself are we better off now with CAJ? We are recruiting well and we are competing at high level.

He is a lot like O, in that it’s almost impossible not to like the guy. I agree that at times it’s frustrating to watch, but it’s still a very young but very talented team AJ has put together. I believe if we hadn’t beat some of the ranked teams we’ve played a lot of this doubt wouldn’t be coming up. It would be about what we expected with a young team, but the frustration comes from knowing how good they can be at times. I’m holding out judgement for at least a little while. Right now I’m just happy to be excited about the future of Alabama BB for the first time in several years.

He won Championships in the NBA as a player, and as a coach.

It's only his 3rd years as a college basketball coach, and he's already up'd the recruiting game and we are most likely going to make the tourney as a mid seed.

I can't think of anything much dumber than bailing on Avery at this point. What's the point in hiring a 1st time coach(in college) if you aren't prepared to give them time to find their footing?

He's improved the team in just about every aspect I can think of. Most important to me - the team is actually fun to watch, and I feel like we have a chance to win every game we play - unlike the Grant years.

You guys are nuts, I'd give Avery 3 more years minimum. Nick Saban didn't become Nick Saban overnight, it takes years of making mistakes and learning.

Put it this way: I watch all the games now. In Grant's last year or two I couldn't tell you who we were playing or when it was on. Now I tune in every game. CAJ at least has us competitive again and we were are on, we can play with anyone. CAJ has to get these plays playing much more consistently and play at a higher level. That is the frustrating part.

Yeah guys, Avery needs 6 full years before we can judge him!

At this point do we make the NIT?

Is there a tourney below the nit we might could win a game at?

We are squarely on the Bubble again this morning as we have been in every February in Avery’s short, miserable tenure. We need some wins down the stretch and instead we’re imploding at home against the weakest Florida team in 20 years. And it’s one thing to get beat; it’s another to not show up, give piss poor effort in an important home game and get run out of your own gym by a team that’s not very good. They were outplayed, outhustled and outcoached, the trifecta of Avery coached teams. Same old, same old.

I’ll go watch the baseball team grow and develop under a coach not hired in desperation by that idiot Battle. Or bitch about our gymnastics team floundering under another Battle hire. I’m ready for Byrne to become like Oprah: “you get a pink slip and you get a pink slip and EVERYBODY gets a pink slip unless your name is Saban!”
