I hate even typing this and I know I am risking being tarred and feathered by the locals (love you guys) but I am serious. Like O, Avery is a hot shot recruiter and motivator. Outside of that I have yet to see anything from our team the first two years or these first games this year that lead me to believe we are a well coached team. Backyard basketball is what I see with elite smalls that can beat a whole lot of teams when they are hot. Yesterday was more of the same. We should have beat those guys by double figures. Anyway I am not suggesting his seat should be warm or that we could even go hire someone better either. I think we could make a run this year but we could also end up very disappointed.

I think the final result of this year will go a long way to telling us what the answer is to your question. There's no doubt that yesterday was a bad loss though.

I'll admit a tiny bit of doubt is starting to creep in. But, we're a very young team. I'm hoping they just haven't fully learned what he's teaching.

Yesterday was ugly but I'll give him the rest of the year. However, this year is very important for him. If we screw around and underachieve he's going to lose all the momentum that had been built within the fanbase.

I'm trying to realize that if we won yesterday even by 1, we'd be 7-1 and in the Top 20 and I'd feel fine. So, I'm not going to melt yet. But if we are 7-6 after A&M? Yea, I'll be melting.

I picture Commander data sits alone every night by a single unshaded lamp with a 5th of Jack, staring at a .38 revolver

I wasn't impressed with yesterday, but imo the team has done better than their talent each of Avery's first two years. I mean that team his first year was awful and was somehow a bubble team pretty late. His second year our best player was a mid ranked 4* true freshman.

That said I don't feel good about us right now. We could easily lose 4 of the next 5.

Yep. Avery has a pretty low bar. I think most of us would be pretty happy with good showing in SEC play and then win a game in the NCAAT. If he can't clear that low bar, then I don't know what to say.

Its early and I think a lot of us got a little bit ahead of ourselves after the start we had.

If this team plays someone with a bunch of juniors and seniors they are going to get outplayed. We've got all the talent now just need to be sound fundamentally and play defense. I'd compare Avery more to Sumlin than Orgeron right now though.

If we make the tourney, I’m happy.

If not, not so much :-(

I'll start having some real doubt if we don't make it in this year, but we're going to go through some growing pains with 18 year olds being the focal point of our offense.

Things we might as well accept though:

We're going to suck on perimeter defense

Free throws will be bad

Dazon Ingram lazy passes and awkward shots

This team is going to have games like yesterday all season. We had 4 or 5 true freshmen get significant playing time, and our leading scorer was taken out of the game by an excellent defensive team. Hopefully they grow and learn from each one. It's also early in the season and the coaches are still trying to figure out the right lineup combinations and substitution patterns. We'll be fine.

I also can't remember a game in recent memory where we had so many shots halfway down pop out.

Too early to bail on Avery yet. He’s a better coach than this team has shown. They are freshmen. You’re going to have days like this. Our backcourt is top 10 worthy, our front court is still a little iffy.

I’ll bet we win 3 of the next 5. Don’t judge anyone on Nov-Dec basketball. Judge them in March.

I thought about using that one, but didn't know if people would get the reference.

If you didn't think this team was going to lose some games early, I don't know what to tell you.

Come on people.
