That wasn't my point. I don't see a universe where Bruce Young is anything less than QB2.

I think Bryce Young could get the Shingles and full blown AIDS and be better than Taulia.

I agree with you.

He's a troll.

To the question, if you are a legitimate title contender (as Bama will be in 2020) you play the guy that gives you the best chance to win right now. This ain't the NFL where to accept rebuilding years while the GM works some trade and draft magic. There are too many variables year in and year out to risk a bite at the big prize.

I totally agree, but Saban's not stupid. And having your QB room empty because you started a true freshman goes a long way toward losing games in the future, and could be a really bad move, particularly when the returning starter is very good and the true freshman will likely willingly sit a year, no problem.

Who is better by Iron Bowl 2020...Bryce Young with 11 starts under his belt, or Mac Jones with 11 more starts under his belt?

shite if I know.

It ain’t even close, Bryce Young has the highest ceiling, and he will/should be your starter.

He hasn't played one single division one college football game.

You don’t bench 5-star QBs unless you want to lose them.

You sure as shite do if they're not good enough. See Blake Barnett versus Jalen Hurts. See AJ McCarron versus Phillip Sims.

I think next season is going to play out a lot like the 2017 season did with Hurts/Tua. Jones is the more experienced QB so he'll be getting the lion's share of the plays but Saban will put Young in pretty frequently. Tua played more as a backup than Saban normally allows, I think because they knew he was a better passer than Hurts, but couldn't really justify replacing the SEC Offensive POTY when he wasn't losing games. The Auburn game changed that.

Earlier in the season Tua had big plays against Vandy, Tennessee, and all of the FCS teams Alabama played that year. And then, of course, in the biggest game...

Mac now can’t hold freshman Tua’s jock. Simmons is 100% right.

I think Saban is a little better at judging the talent now. I doubt he makes anymore Phillip Simms/Blake Barnett mistakes again anytime soon

Saban is the GOAT but his tragic flaw is that he plays guys who know the playbook over guys with more talent. He did it with Jalen over Tua, he did it with our MLBs this year and he damn sure did it with 21 starting at safety. I fear we lose the better talent because Saban feels safer with Mac. I’m normally a big time Crimson Glasses guy but Mac doesn’t currently have “it.” I’m not saying he can’t become great. Hell if Average Joe can win a Heisman after looking like an Allen Brother the year before anything is possible. Bad decisions that cost us the Auburn game, under thrown deep balls, and limited athleticism is the Mac Jones I see currently. He’s ok. He’s nothing special, at this point.

If starting Mac likely costs us 3 years of Young we should be starting Young if he’s functional.

I agree 100%
We don’t want to be in the spot UGA is in 2 years from now.

I would lose 100 BYs before I would deal with the devastation that would come with having recruited guys, trained them and made them a part of a team and then turning on them when they are very good, because some new dude might be a little flashier.

Here is the deal. Unless Mac is hurt next year, he will start every game and play every meaningful snap. He might jump to the NFL after that.

Edit: Saban was very honest with Young. You g knows that Mac OS good and he is experienced. Mac has the ability to win two nattys if given a decent defense.

Young would be smart to sit and learn for a year.

You would be right if this were 10 years ago. You can’t possibly believe this in today’s football when Freshman and Sophomores are starting and leading their teams to the playoffs consistently.

What did Mac do on tape that makes you think the NFL has any interest? He doesn’t have the arm for the NFL man. AJ didn’t even have the arm for the NFL. Mac is not even close to AJ in arm strength.

You guys are all falling in love with Mac because Sark had an incredible game plan against Auburn. Mac played very average against Auburn. Don’t let stats cloud what you actually saw on the field. He had about 5 1st down passes he missed because he was late and behind the receiver. He threw the worst interception combo we have ever seen on a Saban team. He’s ok. You guys are crazy if you think he’s even close to Jalen much less Tua.

Saban will handle this battle just like every other. All 4 QBs will play in the spring game and we fans get to see who looks the best but the same old story is trotted out: Saban will not name a starter and the battle will be carried into fall camp. His goal is to keep everyone happy and out of the transfer portal until it’s too late for this season.

IMHO that’s a fools errand because I think the minute Tua is drafted, the Tagliovoas all move to his NFL city, Taulia included.

So Mac starts game 1 based on experience even though everyone can see BY’s potential is way higher. As long as Mac plays well, he keeps his job and Bryce gets a lot of mop up duty. It’s 2017 all over again. But Mac is no Jalen. Did Saban learn his lesson and therefore will he switch to the kid before its too late or will he stubbornly cling to his old ways?

The only extenuating circumstance is Bryce’s build. Tua was not giant but he was thick, and fairly solid. Young is a buggy whip in comparison. The concern will be can he stand up to SEC linemen and the pounding they administer.

I seen Tua throw a dart right on the numbers to the other team instead of throwing it away. Critical play and total bonehead play by him. Might have been LSU I forget.

All QBs make bad throws. Mac made 5 bad throws and 2 awful throws that went the other way for pic 6s. He’s singled handedly the reason we lost to auburn and you guys are acting like he’s the 2nd coming.
