1) One problem with Boom and I think he would be a great hire: he's got a job paying way more than a DC makes and they can't afford to fire him yet. Move on.

2) Tosh was part of the problem. Yeah, he got some of those highly rated recruits here. And a lot of them have been busts or have left the program. He had a tendency to stargaze.

3) If Ole Miss doesn't keep him since Luke has ben fired, Mike McCarthy didn't do too bad with Ole Miss's defense considering he had to make chicken salad out of chicken shite. If he and Saban are compatible on scheme, etc. hire him.

4) Eric Shumann would be a nice hire.

Saban will look to see what the NFL has to offer. Anyone on the Pats staff?

Absolutely agree - and that is a huge part of a complete effort.

Their between the whistles play was really good. Their mental toughness was pretty shitty.

The holding on what would have been a TD pass to Rugga gets overlooked what with all the false starts after.

So get rid of Banks, Flood and Golding.

Sounds like a law firm

I honestly would like the strong hire.

But, it makes one wonder what the magic # for Venables would be. He is currently getting 2 million a year with the chance to get 11.6 in incentives over the life of his 5 yr contract.

2.5 mill a year for 5 yrs for arguably the best DC in CFB... only one I've ever seen effectively manage a consistently tough, top defense in conjunction with a top 5 uptempo offense.

Worth it?

Banks has done a great job with the non foot to ball parts of special teams. Hopefully Perine/Reichard will be better next year. I mean probably not, cause we're Alabama, but maybe.

I thought the offensive line got better as the year went on. Cajun is right about penalties in the Iron Bowl, but I thought for the 2nd half of the year they were really good. I dunno.

Golding has to go.

No way he leaves Clemson unless it’s for a head coach position.

Guy loves it at Clemson - the atmosphere and all of that, has a kid there, etc

He's not coming to Alabama.

he has had plenty of offers heading back to OU. I think he likes being a DC.

He'd have to get paid, but I wonder what the price would be for a lateral move. Would crush Dabo seeing him leave to Bama.

Purely hypothetical, as I agree he is in a place he genuinely loves. But, money can be persuasive. I just dont think UA would spend what it would take to get him

Field goal kicking has always been an Achilles Heel for Coach Saban

Remember when Sal Sunseri left Alabama to go to Tennessee while Vinnie was still at Alabama.

Who’s to say he could leave if money talks and Saban would really want him

For a promotion.

Venables isn't taking the Alabama DC job. He's not even listening to a lot of head coaching jobs, and he makes it abundantly clear he loves the whole Clemson thing and specifically the atmosphere. That atmosphere does not exist at Alabama.

I admit that I was somewhat relieved the game ended as it did. I had imagined a good return by Waddle followed by a couple quick strikes to get into the red zone. Mac killing the clock with 10 seconds left and having to close my eyes as Bulovas trotted out for a futile game tying 30 yard attempt. Sometimes best just to have the bandaid ripped off.
