I haven't blamed him for it. I am criticizing his handling of the response to it. It has been an unmitigated disaster.

How can you prepare for something like this?

The Chinese government keep the whole world in the dark on this. They did not suspend travel in and out of their country, knowing the huge problem they had.

But to say he “deliberately weakened” the system for political gain is typical far left insanity.

So you do agree who’s at fault? China, right?

[quote]In simple terms, containing an outbreak is about identifying and quarantining infected individuals as quickly as possible, preventing them from perpetuating viral transmission. In this process, the first and most important component is having a standard operating procedure (SOP). As the Iranian outbreak has shown, there are many countries without functional SOPs, making an organized response much more difficult. Even the United States and Japan are exhibiting varying levels of confusion, making me worry they too may lack actionable containment plans.

So far, South Korea and Taiwan are among the few countries to have demonstrated robust and consistent SOPs. This is not surprising given that each has invested heavily in infectious disease control following prior experiences with SARS and MERS. South Korea’s SOP essentially calls for five steps: an aggressive and transparent information campaign, high volume testing, quarantine of infected individuals, treatment of those in need, and disinfection of contaminated environments. These may seem like obvious measures, but proper execution is ultimately what decides their effectiveness.

And while South Korea's methods are fairly intrusive and I wouldn't support matching them exactly, their immediate response should've been mirrored by the US.

At fault for what exactly? The virus itself? Of course not. That's absurd. Did they handle the outbreak in their country well and honestly? No, but I'm not a Chinese citizen, I'm an American citizen. Criticizing China's handling of it doesn't absolve our president for his own failings. Our president works for us, the Chinese leadership does not, so I fail to see what blaming them for anything accomplishes when we have our own crisis here going on that needs to be addressed. It should have already been addressed more proactively weeks ago, but instead we're now doing it reactively and it has created a major disruption in our lives.

You gotta admit this plan he is putting out in his press conference is pretty good.

I think he’s done a very good job with it. He’s basically, always in a no win situation with the left.

It’s kinda funny reading the reaction to it. People on TD are like frick yeah that was great. Then going to over to Reddit and it every comment is making fun of him saying hoax and now declaring an emergency with CEOs that they hate talking. But not actually discussing what was proposed. It’s like they want this to blow up.

Politics in this country has turned into “I can’t wait to see the other side lose”.

It's funny you post this because they're basically just half measures of things some of us have been saying he should've done from the start

I didn't watch it, but what was proposed? I had Twitter open at the start but the feed was moving too fast to follow so I closed it. I saw something about testing at Walmart, CVS, and Walgreen's. What else was there?

I'll say that I hope the supporters are right and that there were some good proposals and they come to fruition.

Didn't watch either but from what I've gathered:

National emergency declared and $50B in aid directed
Fed student loan interest waived
Purchase oil for strategic reserve
More testing eventually (?????)

This is nothing new. It's just out of control now.
Long time ago it was only negative campaign ads.
"My opponent did this terrible act. How can you vote for him?"
Then it was CNN. "The Republicans are doing this idiotic act" And on to FoxNews with "The Democrats are out of line with this thought".
Now, just mix in Twitter, etc. and everyone has a voice or place to find whatever garbage you want to hear

I can remember a time when both parties seen eye to eye on issues. Few things they didn’t agree on. Howell Heflin comes to mind. Was a good senator. Had the privilege meeting him once. Mountain of a man

Politicians no longer care about their constituents. Only about the lobbyist that pays them the most. Take for example the coronavirus aid package that was passed. House Dems tried to add an abortion amendment to it before they got called out. Term limits. It would cure a lot of ills.

I know but recently (over the last few years) things have really become divided. Social media probably helped that

Basically every unbiased and reputable outlet reported that it was in fact an amendment specifically added to close the loophole. This is just another example of partisan shills like the daily caller reporting misinformation. They are straight up lying to you.

Speaking of which, outlets like that and the people that run them are the real problem. The current state of social media, as far as how people do or don't interact on them, is only a symptom.

I will die on that hill. The proliferation of social media will be the downfall of our county. Every idiot with a phone can post their idiotic thoughts. It allowed people to say whatever they want without fear of consequence. The biggest threat to our country is an uneducated voting mass, and social media is making the point.

How do you think the previous administration turned the population against law enforcement so quickly? Social Media and 2 or 3 negative platform stances.

America 101:

Insert political party backed by insert media group who push insert political parties ideology will do ABSOLUTELY anything to be re elected or elected regardless of the morality of any issue.

Washington was correct, we didn’t need parties.
