I live on the South GA beaches and they are the same way. Nothing else to do. Fresh air and open spaces. Warm sunshine. Noice.

Liberals holding up the economy for a virus that the vast majority of people will be asymptomatic or have very mild symptoms that can be treated with rest, quarantine, and over the counter meds will soon be over.

So my mom has been an er nurse going on 40ish years. Most of what she does now is teaching er cert courses at the 3 local branches of her hospital. They had a guy come in and test positive a few days ago. The patient originally came in on the 7th or 8th, presuming he had it... and they didn't even fricking test him, blamed it on his underlying lung issues. A week straight of infecting people unfettered. He's probably not gonna make it, been on a ventilator since he checked in the 2nd time.
So to compound the retardation, the director of nursing (or so I think that's dumb bitch's work title) at 1 of the 3 hospitals went on a cruise with her family during this period. Yup, in quarantine and can't do shite work wise. I'm absolutely flabbergasted by the frickery I've watched unfold locally.

The culmination of decades worth of a declining public education system that has become increasingly focused on teaching students to take standardized tests rather than teaching critical thinking skills that can be applied to any situation or topic.

Yep. My doctor friend hsa said just getting someone tested has been next to impossible. He's had 3 or 4 patients come in showing symptoms and have tested negative for everything else. All he can do is send them home, tell them to isolate themselves, and go to the ER if symptoms worsen.
ETA - And even crazier he said are the regular patients that act like it's no big deal. He had a young mother show up at his office yesterday for a well check visit with her infant child. He made her leave and told her he'd call to do a well check over the phone.

True and also a dependency on watching insert media source with non factual information. The CDC and WH has to put out messages telling people please stop listing to other sources of information other than the CDC.

And this goes back to my original point. When this was first starting the president said the virus was contained, then a week later said those who want to get tested, can get tested. Neither of those statements were even close to accurate. Yet the knee-jerk for so many is to blame the media? Sure, they've sensationalized it and added to the hysteria, but how does he escape any criticism or culpability?
To his credit, I think the gravity of the situation has finally gotten through to him and he's saying, and hopefully doing, the right things.

That's almost verbatim to the Ebola fiasco of 2014.
The first person to be diagnosed with Ebola on American soil went to the emergency room but was quickly released from the hospital even though he told the staff he had traveled from Liberia. His half brother told the staff he actually lived in Liberia and the hospital staff still never screen the dude for the Ebola disease. The dude was released back into the wild.
The Ebola victim's travel history was written down but the hospital staff never gave it to the doctor who made the decisions. The guy returns a few days later in the back of an ambulance and this time he is admitted with full-blown symptoms. 2 Texas nurses come down with the virus. It was then learned the nurses hadn't fully worn their biohazard clothing.
After the Ebola patient's death, instead, of a hard quarantine for the 77 staff members, one nurse asked the CDC if she could get on a public plane to Ohio and visit her family, even though she admitted she was suffering from a fever. The CDC said yes and she was off. She too had the virus. Another nurse thought it a good idea and went on a boat cruise.
Turns out the national director of the CDC publically stated he was against banning public air travel even during a possible plague. They later rescinded such brilliant deduction by the head of the CDC and replaced the A-hole.
Hell folks, when it comes to viruses, the medical community, and common sense, we all should feel very fortunate to still be here.
