Injury updates on Damien Harris, others to start Iron Bowl week (BamaOnLine)
quote:

To begin Auburn week, Alabama head coach Nick Saban gave updates on the Crimson Tide’s injured players, including running back Damien Harris (concussion).

“Damien, we’ll hold today, but he’s made really good progress,” Saban said in a Monday press conference. “As everyone knows, we have a concussion protocol, because we have a baseline test on every player, and when the player gets back to his baseline -- this was called a mild concussion. And hopefully he’ll be back to his baseline soon and he can resume activity when that occurs.”

Harris was slow to get up after a 73-yard run, but after members of the training staff attended to him, he was able to jog off under his own power. The senior rushed for 83 yards on seven carries.

Saban also provided updates on starting offensive linemen Deonte Brown (turf toe) and Alex Leatherwood (ankle). Brown did not play against The Citadel, and Leatherwood sustained a twisted ankle in the Crimson Tide’s last game. Both players are making some progress.

Deonte Brown is practicing today,” Saban said. “Alex Leatherwood is better. We’re going to probably hold him out of practice today, but we expect him to be able to practice very soon this week.”

Saban also said safety Deionte Thompson (bruised knee) will practice Monday. Thompson came up limping and left The Citadel game in pain. The redshirt junior recorded eight tackles and forced a fumble that resulted in an Anfernee Jennings touchdown. He was replaced by Keaton Anderson.

Alabama will next host in-state rival Auburn on Saturday, Nov. 24, for a 2:30 p.m. CT kickoff.

ETA: Thompson on his knee, “It’s feeling pretty good. I just took a shot to the knee. Could’ve easily came back into the game, but they helped me out, so I’ll be ready for this week. It was pretty painful, but I think my body was more in shock than it was in pain because once I walked around after … I could’ve went back in the game. It wasn’t a big deal.

“I just got cut-blocked. But I really feel like it could’ve been easily prevented. Just in the fourth quarter, I was kind of high, just wasn’t playing with good leverage and just got cut. So, it’s something that I could have prevented and just got to pay more attention to it moving forward.”

Ha that is a hilarious gif.

Whenever coach says players will be practicing, I can't help but think back to when he said Hurts was practicing, and then when we saw him weeks later during pregame warmups he was hobbling/could barely run. I guess practice is a relative term.

Having to send out Keaton Anderson to replace a starter is a concern.

About as expected. Brown practicing is encouraging, but it's so easy to re-aggrevate a turf toe injury, so I'm fully expecting to see some Lester Cotton Saturday.

Wouldn't shock me to see Harris not play either. Concussions are pesky things where symptoms can linger for a week or two.

I think Harris will do everything in his power to play on Senior Day. I hope he goes off on the Barn for 200+ yds and 3 TD's. He deserves it.

Pretty sure they let Keaton play because it was the Citadel man.

Harris clears concussion protocol; injured OL making progress (BamaOnLine)

quote:

Alabama running back Damien Harris returned to the practice field Tuesday a suffering a “mild concussion” in The Citadel game. He sported a black, no-contact jersey in the viewing periods for local media but participated in nearly every drill, including work with the offensive line.

Wednesday on the SEC coaches teleconference, Nick Saban provided the latest on Harris, who had to go through the team’s concussion protocol after sustaining the injury this past Saturday.

“He cleared, and he practiced yesterday,” Saban said. “So, we hope, without setback, he’ll be OK.”

Harris was slow to get up after a 73-yard run, but after members of the training staff attended to him, he was able to jog off under his own power. The senior ran for 83 yards on seven carries against the Bulldogs and has rushed for 678 yards and seven scores on 108 carries this year.

Harris returned for his senior season but has evenly shared touches with Josh Jacobs and Najee Harris.

“For him as a leader and just being very unselfish, the adversity that he’s faced just sharing the ball and maybe not having the stats -- I don’t know his stats, but I know he was hoping for a huge breakout season,” redshirt senior center Ross Pierschbacher said. “But just to see the success we’ve had as an offense, I think, has helped him with this. Just shows the character and leadership that he has. I’ve seen him grow just as a person tremendously.”

Saban also provided updates on starting offensive linemen Deonte Brown (turf toe) and Alex Leatherwood (ankle). Brown did not play against The Citadel, and Leatherwood sustained a twisted ankle in the Crimson Tide’s last game. At practice this week, Brown has worked with the second-team offensive line, while Leatherwood has been limited. Seniors Lester Cotton and Joshua Casher have practiced with the first team at left and right guard, respectively.

According to Saban, both injured players are making nice progress.“They’re both practicing today,” Saban said. “Deonte practiced yesterday. When you have injured players, you just have to go day-to-day, and even though they’ve practiced, what are their issues going to be moving forward? So, they’re day-to-day, but we’re optimistic that both guys are making very good progress.”

Alabama will practice again later this afternoon at 3:40 p.m. CT, and Saban will have a chance to address reporters again during a post-practice press conference, which will occur at 6 p.m.

Alabama will close out its 2018 regular season with it hosts its in-state rival Auburn on Saturday, Nov. 24, for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff. The 83rd Iron Bowl will air on CBS from Bryant-Denny Stadium.

I hope they rest Brown and Leatherwood. I think we can beat Auburn without them.
