If Alabama is ever going to run the ball this season, this is the game.

Indy's DL looks to be a quick moreso than power group. This game is begging for Bama to run power to the left. If they can get 3.5 YPC power, Bama can smoke Indiana.

I know, that is a huge if . If Bama can pull off "THE IF" then everything else opens up in this game for a 10+ point win.

I think they are going to be slanting hard hoping our OL lean and using those creases to sneak their LBs in for negative plays. They also have enough film study to see how effective late twists have work on our right side as well. That right doesn't have the discipline to keep their back to the QB, tend to turn when they see a DL go.. continually forgetting one will replace that hole.

Honestly it's again on Ty who I believe has awoken. He has to be fearless in throwing those seams and fade routes. If he puts that pressure on their backend they can't cheat to help the run and we could possibly wear them out with some good running

We're definitely a pass-to-open-up-the-run type of team this year, so I suspect you're right that it starts with Ty backing off the safeties.

Best to run out of the I formation and some play action.

Didn't they try some I formation in the first Oklahoma game that didn't work?

I think the problem with out running game is our backs lack the quickness to take advantage of holes that are open for a very short window. The O line isn’t as bad as people believe. Go back and watch some running plays. The holes are there, our backs are either too slow with their vision and speed. You have to hit that hole immediately and not be hesitant. I think our most successful run plays comes from our quickest back and the one with good vision to see the hole created for him.

This is so true. The first two backs lack vision and quickness.

Tried it late to kill the clock. It was highly ineffective.

IU has the #11 adjusted YPC defense in the country and only allows teams 70% of their usual rushing average per carry. Our lead backs are at 3.9YPC on the season which would work out to 2.7YPC if the data holds.

#2 OU (55%)
#4 AU
#9 MIZ
#14 UGA

The closest approximation for us is UGA who allowed 3YPC to our backs in the first matchup when we were healthy.

I see no reason to expect us to do better than that against IU unless losing their edge guy disrupts them or they have trouble on the back end in coverage.

Yes they are with regard to run blocking.

Our average first contact in the rushing game is almost -1YPC last I checked which is just about the worst in the SEC and one of the worst in P4.

You want to argue coaching or something fine maybe but the end result has been horrible all year and barely got better against terrible teams.

Lot of people blaming the backs when the issue is and has been the blocking all season

Jam was highly inconsistent after his injuries planting and getting upfield until AU, but yeah we’ve been missing blocks and our guards and RT at times have the slowest feet I’ve seen since the Shula era.

It’s so bad I suspect they’re waiting to make reads or not understanding responsibilities play to play.
