Man chill!

It's likely Ben will leave after this season.

Pretty sure he'll get his release at the end of the season.

It sure must be nice not having anything important going on in your life, so you feel the need to police the interwebz

It's common for players to ask for their release and finish the season.

Can't remember the guys name, but the dude that punched a guy and clothes-lined another last year asked for his release long before that game.

What every one else said. I never implied or said he was leaving immediately.

I am curious though. Why would any player ask for his release during the season. If I was NS I would have no more reason to invest in coaching him. He would be the last on the depth chart and would not get any game reps. I would put in a walk on and try and develop him to take meaningful reps in a game before I would put in any kid who had already "quit" on the team. Now if he said he was giving up FB due to medical that is not quitting the team but I still would not invest in developing said player.

I think if they get their release they can start making contact with other schools (or their name goes into a database and they can be contacted by schools maybe). If you’re transferring you really wouldn’t want to wait until January 10 or something like that to start looking for your next team. I mean, it’s not like Davis is anywhere close to the two deep anyway. It really doesn’t matter at this point.

What Bham said. Moving schools isn’t easy or instant.

I understand that but he played late in the UT game. Give that PT to someone who has not quit on the team is my point, if he has truly told NS he wants his release. And I would be shocked if other schools can contact him now while he is on the team. Unlike the Clempson guy who got his release and left the team. He in essence is a FA. But Davis is still part of the team.

There is difference in quitting and asking for a release. He wants to play more at a lesser school. That isn’t a quit it’s a move.

If he's still participating in team activities he hasn't quit on the team. Letting the coaches know ahead of time helps them know how many new players they can recruit, and continuing to coach him and try to get him on the field helps him with his future playing career. Ben Davis isn't a P-5 caliber player. He's probably going to transfer to somewhere like UAB, JSU, or USA. There's nothing wrong with trying to help him improve. He hasn't done anything wrong or gotten in the doghouse.

Has Davis already used a redshirt? He has, hasn't he?
