How Rare Was Will Reichard's Season This Year?

Pretty fricking rare
A review of Alabama and NCAA record books added some context to the degree of Reichard’s unblemished sophomore season.
For the Crimson Tide, it’s beyond rare. This simply never happened in the years since 1947 when the record book first tracked made and missed field goals and extra points. Since 1990, the closest Alabama came to a perfection when combining the two was 94.4% achieved both in 2012 and 2004.
Zooming out to the national level, this isn’t a first but making every extra point and field goal in a season isn’t common. In fact, Oklahoma’s Gabe Brkic made all 52 PATs and 17 field goals in 2019.
That feat, however, had not been completed in at least a decade before that.

More or less rare than playing an entire season without having an opposing kicker miss a kick?

What's as absurd is Will got to take 73 extra points attempts in one season.

Will also finally showed us he could consistently kick the ball into the endzone in the NC game. Why he couldn't do that earlier, I don't know. Might have been Saban.

Saban. His philosophy was to force a return and have superior athletes make plays. So one can assume in the OSU game we had similar talent and so he just settled for touchbacks.

As long as he is in a Bama uni Im never going to talk about how nice it is to see PATs go right down the middle. Because to say how pretty and stressfree that is might bring about misfortune

Best kicker in the country and solid as a rock. We are lucky in short.

I think it’s five yards closer, but in high school he routinely kicked it out of the back of the end zone.

Will got robbed of the Groza this year. I get that he didn’t kick a ton of FG’s, but how many times has a guy made every kick he attempted in a championship season and not won the award?
The kicker that won (Jose Borregales, MIA) was 18/20 on FG’s and 35/35 on XP’s. Reichard was a PERFECT 14/14 on FG’s and 84/84 on XP’s. Will made 45 MORE kicks this season, along with not missing. Borregales’s long was 57 to Reichard’s 52.
Maybe he gets another chance next year. He’s still young, but IMO, that’s an awful reason for not rewarding the best player at his position by a wide margin.
