118th nationally and last in the league. That’s why there is no Alabama factor anymore and why people are whispering Saban is slipping. We’re not getting beat so much as we’re beating ourselves. That has to stop if we’re going to turn this thing around.

We're also #93 (12th in SEC) in Opponent's Penalties.

Just my opinion but this is where the depth issues double down. I’d be yanking asses out of the game for some of these stupid penalties.

That’s bad and reflects directly on the coaching staff. Most undisciplined team Saban has had since he’s been here. Only makes sense yesterday ended with too many men on the field. I’m about to start melting on a Sunday so I’ll quit now.

Agree - and the youth doesn't help either. Both are contributing factors.

Incredibly easy schedule helped a lot.

Even our FCS opponent was a shitty FCS team.

115. Ole Miss (11/19, 57.9%)

Shockingly, they went 1/1 against Alabama

Nationally the bottom 5

126. Western Michigan (8/15, 53.3%)
127. South Florida (7/14, 50.0%)
128. Oregon State (4/9, 44.4%)
129. Maryland (2/5, 40.0%)
130. Georgia Tech (3/8, 37.5%)

As you can see - the terrible teams (OSU, Maryland, GT) at some point just gave up on field goals for the most part. Hmmmm

Here is the good news.........

- Punting will be better next year. It may not be great, but it should be average at worst. Perine has proven to not terrible (44.7 YPP on 13 punts).

- I just refuse to believe that Reichard won't at least be Leigh Tiffin level, which would be a huge step up.

- Penalties can hardly get any worse

Think Reichard will be around for an extra year if he gets his red shirt this year. So that can be good. Maybe

George, this may be a question Boz or someone who’s worked in sabans program could answer. are there any stats out there with how many yards our defense (or anybody else’s D ) gives up after contact with the runner??

Specifically I’m wondering how many times we fail to force a punt by simply tackling the runner vs trying to strip and subsequently allowing the runner to get past the First down marker on third down.

We’re either placing a high priority on stripping the runner or just using piss poor tackling technique across the board on D.

Our less than stellar tackling Almost coincides with the penalties ranks you share above.

Perine did well in his small sample size. Probably got us out of the SEC cellar with his numbers.

Think about this: that BS field goal at the end of the half probably never happens if we just tackle him after first contact at the 40-41. He goes down with 4 seconds left, chains get set, clock starts, Auburn either spikes it and tries a 57 yarder or they let the clock run out. But instead, Whitlow drags players for 5-6 yards as we grab and hold on for dear life instead of knocking his dick in the dirt. You know the rest.
