Half the roster left after Saban retired.

Right. We had to field a team of blind, albino, peg-legged, coed fricking walk-ons.

Kiffin’s Ole Miss team filled with mid talent (with the exception of Dart) lost to Kentucky.

Ole Miss had more players drafted this year than Alabama, Miami, and LSU to name a few. The only schools with more draft picks were Ohio State, Georgia, Texas, and Oregon. They spent a lot of money on portal players before last season.

People really underestimate how awful he was. The Nike contract alone is worth saying he’s the worst we’ve ever had.

And let's be real people have a revisionist history about Mal Moore because of the Saban hire. If he wasn't an Alabama man that had played on/coached on so many National Championship teams would he have still been the AD in 2006 after all the athletic program went through in the early 2000s?

If he didn’t get Saban he was losing his job. He had massive heat on him. People were protesting to fire Mal Moore

Isn’t that a testament to the man’s recruiting ability? We ARE talking about Ole Piss here, not Ohio State. And he’s done what he’s done in Oxford almost exclusively through the portal. He is among the best, if not THE best coach out there for managing a roster in the NIL/portal era with Ole Miss money and resources. He has perennial bottom third Ole Miss in the playoff conversation and they are posting 10 win seasons on the regular now. And that’s something Alabama failed to do last year. You keep saying he had Jaxson Dart and all these draft picks, well he had Dart and those other guys because 1) he saw the talent 2) convinced that talent to join him in Oxford 3) developed the talent 4) put them in The League. And I’d like to add that he lured Dart to Oxford, MS from USC and the great Lincoln Riley, purported QB whisperer and pass happy stat sheet stuffer. So whatever your beef is with Lane, your argument that he has all this talent and is underachieving is backfiring on you.
But he lost to _______. Nick Saban lost at least 1 game a year almost every year he was in Tuscaloosa to a less talented team. shite happens in the SEC and Kiffin has much less margin for error because he doesn’t have the luxury of a 5 star player at almost every position. Saban did, so the talent disparity between Alabama losing to a team and Ole Miss losing to even a cellar dweller isn’t comparable.
What would Kiffin be able to attract and accomplish in Tuscaloosa with Alabama’s tradition and resources? I would bet you my house it would be better than the dipshit we have currently destroying the program.

Our fan base is going to judge the AD strictly on the health of the football program. That is what it is. Byrne has been fantastic at the business end of the job, which is the priority at most other colleges in the country. And which Battle and Mal were clueless about. But he’s botched this football hire which has people on his case. Again it is what it is.

And all that “business end of the job” will be for naught when we are stroking a $50 million check to fire DeBoer after he has decimated the gold standard of college football.

Byrne had one job and blew it tremendously

Byrne should get a chance to rectify this mistake.
