No shite. Some holds don’t affect the play either but are called and some are questionable also … you know that . Just don’t see how anybody can objectively look at the game and say we were good against the run Saturday night

Well if you use your brain you would see the holds they called directly impacted those big runs earlier.

If you also use your brain you would understand missing your star space eating DT impacts everything inside and once ours got injured it opened things up for Kirby to run. Before he got injured they were under 50 yards.

After he got injured they were over 150.

It makes a difference. You just have to use your brain.

Green was filling that roll of someone like Chapman or Jarren Reed back in the early Saban days. Probably has almost nothing on the stat sheet each week but one of the most important players on the defense despite more talented players all around him.

You need a guy like Green if 2-gapping the run fits is your strategy.

He's miles better as a passer but the guy poses zero run threat. If we get to obvious passing situations we should tee the frick off on that guy.

I am using my brain. Whether 99 plays or doesn’t , you still have to play the game . Sure it hurts to lose one of our best DTs , but it doesn’t change the fact that we have to stop the run with SOMEBODY regardless . We didn’t do that well… you can look for excuses all day but it doesn’t change anything

We did it well when Terrence Green was in the game. Once he was out, we have a drop in quality like every team which they took advantage of.

If you would like to get to the reason we gave up big runs look at our over-pursuit from LBs and how Bray absolutely killed us as our backside gap filler missing tackles or easily getting blocked once the RBs cut back.

Exactly. The guy has been a monster for us and whether people want to believe this or not you need the Jimmy's and Joe's.

We have to deal with that going forward till we get Green back but what would help is LBs doing a bit of a better job reading and flowing. It would also help if our backside safety doesn't get easily pancaked or puked out of his shoes.

Already did in another post . 4,7, and 18 hurt us on several big runs . Again, the whole unit will need to play much better at UT against the run or it will be a tough out

Well, which is it? You pointed out it was bc Green went out and now it is the LBs fault . Use your brain

They ALL have to play better which is my point

Right I notice that we follow the play side action pretty hard with our backers and box safeties even in other games. When the line is getting those 2-gap wins, it is harder for the press by the tailback to cause a backside hole to develop.

We seem to be built around hard pursuit to the ball and things go awry when the DL doesn’t keep the OL bottled up at the LOS. You end up with OL getting to the second level and getting on backer or safety that over-pursued.

I don’t know if that is EVERY big run UGA got but it is a common theme on many of our big runs conceded this season.

Saw Kiper's early top 25 draft list, as well as top 5 by position. He has Zabien as the 6th best CB. Must be a deep class, because it seems like Brown has been lockdown so far this season for the most part.

Kiper spends more time at the salon than watching football.

Stop talking about football. Go talk about golf or something because these things obviously go over your head.

Sad you need to explain why you can't have safety playing poor in the box with LB over pursuing when you're already missing you run gap plug.

Exactly and our guy #99 pushes the pocket/line inside which slows or cuts off the RB cutbacks lanes. The guy we replaced him with wasn't causing that disruption and we were trying all kinds of changes and switches to somehow re-create that.

I will say #90 really disappointed at times getting absolutely whipped.

Man you are trolling

I know football …believe me . You are talking out of both sides of your mouth on a simple statement I made that the run defense was poor . First , it was bc Green went out , then the “real” reason was bc of LBs and S play .. GTFOH with your bull shite

What I have said has been consistent. It's not my problem you attempted to misrepresent it to win an online discussion.

When our starting NT was in the game they struggled to run. He fills gaps and presses the point of attack. This works in cohesion with our defensive concept with our LBs who are told to attack/pursue gap once open. When our NT got hurt we tried different people even Devan to plug that role but no one could effectively do it. We were then obviously exposed backside because we weren't getting push to disrupt which opened the cutback lane toour safety... who played a bad game in run defense to close that cutback lane.

It's not that hard to understand. Had #99 not gotten injured they wouldn't have taken off like tjst because he would fill pushed the point of attack, crumbling or at least slowing the cutback and we wouldn't have had to rely on Bray to have to make those plays.

Hope you understand now.

This line right here is why some of you should comment on golf. You don't even comprehend how our defense plays, responsibilities and how those are impacted when certain players are missing or don't do their job.

You so clueless but its guaranteed instead of conceding yoh got this wrong you will continue this nonsense with weak one-liners but not one indepth explanation about the concept, adapting to losing a key player, etc.

ETA- I coached for 25 years so I must have fooled some people I don’t need internet cred which you seem to crave .

I think you both have points. Our DL winning has covered a tendency for our backers and safeties over-pursuing.

However, the root problem is that our backers and box safeties get themselves out of position way too often. They need the DL kicking arse to cover it up and that’s not going to happen against elite competition.

This isn't true. We were good for a half then fell off when we lost a key player. That key player is "key" for a reason.

As I speculated you didn't actually address or speak in any detail. Just more incomplete blanket statements.

I have had plenty of terrible coordinators so that wouldn't surprise me. Coaching is about who you know as much as it is what you know.

It's the concept of how the defense works. When Kane saw this could he have told #4 to relax on pursuit? Yeah, but you don't want #4 overthinking.

In the end you need #18 to be a gamer and if the cutbacks opens, fill it... and due to his failures here we gave up big runs
