Ehhhhhh, I'm just not digging Evans much. He seems like the type to be in the portal if he's not the day 1 starter.

Let’s just hope he doesn’t end up at Clemson. Don’t mind the Baby Blues.

Jeez, that hurts. They had a heck of a linebacker recruiting class going before this and the decommits of Quan and Demouy.

My guess would be that Zach Evans is thinking about Trey Sanders missing the season and coming back next year. That'll be two top rated 5-star RBs fighting for playing time then. I'm not sure if Evans likes to enter into that situation.
I could be totally wrong here, of course, and I'd love to have him, but I think he's having doubts about Bama only because of the Sanders injury...

I'm not sure I'd buy that logic since UGA is a prime contender and they have Kendall Milton coming in next year.

I'll eat my words if and when when Evans commits to either Georgia or Bama. Right now I stand by them. We discussed earlier in this thread about two 5-star running backs committing to the same team in the same year. It happened a couple of years ago (more knowledgable people than me here know the team and the players involved), but it was mentioned that in that case one of those RBs had a significant injury and would miss the entire season anyway.

I concur... We like to use a 3 rb system if we have the personnel! We use a two rb system now

I have no idea why we don’t play Ford more than we do.

That was Chubb and Marshall in 2015 for UGA who committed together. The knee injury you referenced is not accurate because Chubb got hurt their sophomore year in October (game 6) and came back and played his entire junior year and never redshirted.

Cam Akers and Khalan Laborn were both 5 stars who committed to FSU in 2017.

What could work in our advantage with RB recruiting this cycle (and hopefully with Evans) is that with Tua gone to the NFL next year there will likely be more emphasis on the running game, like we saw in the 10RC game.

This is unless Taulia is Tua-ready next year, of course.

Evans if concerned about touches on the ball may also have concern with B Young coming in who is a true dual threat QB that will be putting up rushing yds.

Maybe I'm in the minority but I don't think Bryce is going to be running the ball by design much at Bama.

Here is the previous post on the two 5-star RB subject that I was referring to:
quote:

quote:
I believe UGA pulled two 5 stars with Michel and Chubb and I think FSU might have pulled two 5 star backs under Jimbo in the same year but your point still stands. It is rare and I don't think any of the 5 star backs in this class want to partner up.

If I'm not mistaken they weren't in the same class, I think they were a year apart but Chubb had the serious knee injury and missed a year. Therefore that's why they finished the same year.

The first quote is from you (Carlton), the second is an apparently incorrect reply. Anyway, I'd love to see Evans join Sanders. Roll Tide.

IF playing time competition is a big concern to Evans, the choice is clear. However, Evans knows that splitting carries in college is actually a good thing. Quality of the OL is also important to him. Evans' OV to LSU is this weekend. I think he'll probably take OVs to UGA, A&M and Bama too, before he decides and commits.

Yep, I remember that exchange which is why I responded. I corrected it back then a few post later.

They were the same class. Chubb pulled an Adrian Peterson after having his knee destroyed 6 games into 2015 and was back for the full 2016 season.

Yep, YOU were the more knowledgeable person! But I never mentioned that there was a knee injury, lol.

Recruiting often defies logic so Evans may end up at UGA, which I would consider weird. But UGA is the latest RB-university, right? And they like to run the ball...

I agree with Surge: a RB should be smart and avoid colleges that create early wear and tear. Reducing the workload in a place like UA does NOT adversely affect your chances of being drafted (high) and almost ensures that you enter the pros in mint condition (well, sort of). And being coached by Charles Huff isn't half bad either.

Bama should have a lot going for every RB recruit. So, why did Evans seem very hot for Bama early on only to see UGA take over (CB wise) and lately LSU as well?

Thoughts anyone?

I thought I read UGA turned away from Evans because of the games he's been playing and started pursuing others.

Key word: seem

It's quite possible that all the "buzz" about Evans leaning to various schools at different points isn't very reliable and offers little, if any, good insight into where he ends up. The buzz has mostly been speculation -- per "sources" -- filtered and spun by recruiting media. Evans very rarely even talks to the media. And you can't really even rely on what Evans says. He often doesn't follow through with what he says he's going to do, such as visits, being poised to commit, etc. He also contradicts himself often, even in the same sentence. Either he's not tipping his hand, intentionally misleading people, changing his mind freqently, or even all of the above to some degree. #unpredictable

Ha, what you said about him made me think about Aubrey Solomon, remember him? 5 star DE in the 2017 class. Went go-kart riding with Jim Harbaugh. Supposedly LOVED Bama, but signed with Michigan. I just found out he transferred to Tennessee (I guess he liked Pruitt)...

I just want players who want to be at Alabama. If Zach Evans doesn't want to be here, that's fine. Just don't pretend, thank you.

I think maybe Evans just isn't in any rush and will take his OVs before deciding.
