As a fellow newbie, from what I've noticed, I think the primary recruiter gets the foot in the door in a region through HS coaches and families and then the secondary guy is the position coach who takes care of the visits and phone calls. Could be dead wrong tho

Is A-Day weekend considered an unofficial visit weekend, or do we even let recruits come to the game?

Bama usually has a lot of recruits visiting A-Day Weekend, but Official Visits that early are rare. OVs can be taken after April 1, except during Dead Periods. OV expenses are paid by the school. Recruits may take five OVs, one per school. Everything to know about official visits

Ten uncommitted players to know in Maryland's 2020 class (247Sports)

The class of 2019 is in the rear view mirror and now the focus is on the class of 2020, and prospects can sign binding national letters of intent in a little more than 10 months.

As the focus shifts to the next class, getting to know the prospects in that next wave and becoming familiar with them is vital.

This piece continues a state-by-state look at players to know in the East Region as it breaks down some "must-know" players in Maryland. . . (more)

'21 LB Jonathan Flowe is one of region's top prospects (247Sports)

quote:

Upland (Calif.) sophomore Jonathan Flowe has seen his recruitment blow up in the last few months. Flowe is the younger brother of elite ’20 linebacker Justin Flowe, arguably the top ‘backer in the junior class.

The younger Flowe is showing he’s set to be an elite national recruit in his own right and has seen scholarship offers pour in from schools all across the nation. . . . (more)

Best 1-2 Punch in 2019 Class: Safeties
quote:

With 2019 in the rear-view mirror, let’s take a look at the teams that brought in the best 1-2 punches at each position. Today, we look at the safeties. . . (more)

Mike Farrell included Oklahoma in this article with their Rivals-ranked #18 and #22 safety signees. Bama signed Rivals-ranked #2 safety Jordan Battle and #9 athlete DeMarcco Hellams, 247 Composite #8 safety, recruited as a safety. Bama arguably has the best "1-2 punch" 2019 safeties class, but isn't included in the article.

No. 1 APB sets two officials, Bama unofficial (247 Sports-VIP)

Chris Tyree

"I’m doing an unofficial to Alabama next (March 1-3) weekend, official to Oklahoma for the spring game April 12-14 and an official to Notre Dame June 21-23."

Tyree ran a 4.38-second 40-yard dash in April, a 3.95-second shuttle in July, and his vertical is 38.2 inches.

5-star APB Chris Tyree 5-9/178 VA hudl

You are going to have to to join a paid site and get into the vip section to get a full blown detail and breakdown of recruiting. Don't get me wrong this thread is awesome for a quick breakdown and glance on whats going on, but for more in depth recruiting its going to be a paid site. We bring as much over here as we can and we are allowed, but even then a lot of things are paraphrased and shorten to not step on toes. Just being honest with you.

No worries, mate, but there seems to be a misunderstanding. I responded to a reply to a previous post of mine in which I asked a general question about how the coaches on Bama's staff are assigned to recruiters (e.g. per region, per position). The poster who replied wasn't sure either so I said that we should wait for an 'expert' (a more knowledgeable person on this board) to chip in.
My post has nothing to do with which recruits are trending to which teams or other kinds of specifics. Cheers!

The great thing about this megathread is that you get all the information from all sources and all kinds of sources. Awesome work! Thanks, Surge!

This is Alabama's 2020 class in its entirety (BamaOnLine)

quote:

Alabama wrapped up National Signing Day earlier this month atop the 247Sports Composite Team Recruiting Rankings for 2019. The Crimson Tide finished with 317.50 points, good for one of Nick Saban's all-time best signing classes.

With the Early Signing Period in its second year, we've seen the Tide take a more expedited approach on the recruiting trail in some areas, and that's evident in Alabama's 2020 class at the moment. Nick Saban and staff have accepted 11 commitments thus far in the cycle and we saw a flurry of offers go out in recent weeks with the staff hitting the road in January and after hosting a pair of Junior Days.

Alabama ranks No. 2 in the 2020 at the moment, with an average per/commit rating of 93.22. The Tide has already hit on several needs in the class, but with a little under 12 months to go until pen to paper, expect Bama to continue to push for all areas of need in the cycle. Here, BamaOnLine takes a look at each of the Tide's 2020 commitments. . . (more)

I was following what you were saying.. and responding. I was saying it’s a very complex strategy by which coach recruits who. Usually all that is behind a pay site and really breaks all that down per recruit and explains the relationship and where it comes from. It can go back to what teams the coach was with, where he played his high school and college ball, who his wife knows, kids played together in little league..even where he lived 6 years ago. There is no set formula to who recruits who to be honest, besides the regions that are assigned. But that can change with a relationship from another coach on staff. It’s more of a best advantage. They do like to bring in the position coach if it’s a good fit and at least introduce. They can explain how the player will be used in the scheme they run... but them taken the lead after that is not a gimme. I have seen if we really need to close a guy high on our board or one is slipping.. Saban seems to step in and takes over. Such is the case with Trey Sanders and Saban visiting his dad at work.

Thanks, Bo!

So, who will be our 'recruiting guy-to-guy' (other than CNS) now that Lupoi is gone? Saban did some major house cleaning after the Clemson loss. In some cases we may not miss their coaching as much as their recruiting ability, but Tosh, Locks, Josh Gattis and Joe P were considered good or even great recruiters.

We have pretty fantastic new coaching staff in place (IMO), but who are going to be our lead recruiters? I've read that Charles Huff has a good reputation as a recruiter. Didn't he finish like 2nd in the recruiters-rankings some years ago? Sal Sunseri seems solid as well. Other than those 2, who else?

PG whiffed on Dean and To'oto'o last year, but has a pretty good rep. From the short interview that was posted in the coaching thread Brian Baker looks like he could be a good one.

Any thoughts?

Not Bo but I suspect our top recruiters to be multiple rather than one go-to-guy.

Brian Baker
Charles Huff
Holmon Wiggins
-
Charles Kelly
Pete Golding
-
Jeff Banks
-
Sal Sunseri
Kyle Flood
-
Steve Sarkisian

The four highest ranked of Bama's targets at the DE position appear more likely to land elsewhere, based on visits, reports and CB predictions:

Clemson: 5* DE Bryan Bresee 6-5/290 MD hudl
Clemson: 5* DE Jordan Burch 6-5/250 SC hudl
Georgia: 5* DE Myles Murphy 6-5/255 GA hudl
Texas: 4* DE Vernon Broughton 6-5/280 TX hudl

Distance and Bama's strong 2019 DE haul don't help our chances either with any of those four.

The good news is that DE isn't a big priority in this cycle. Looking at the 2019 Roster, it's likely we'll only lose Raekwon Davis at DE after this season and we'll have ample excellent depth.

Also, 4* DT Jayson Jones 6-6.5/340 AL hudl (Bama commit) has grown taller. Given his height & length, with the right S&C and diet (drop 20-25 lbs of bad weight), Jones could actually be a better fit at DE than DT.

'Big change" 4-star WR target could land at Auburn (247Sports-Auburn)

J.J. Evans
quote:

"I love it. As soon as I got here (today), they showed me a bunch of love... Every time I come down here, it’s the same... There’s a big chance I could be on the commitment list soon. I love it here..."

Note: The author CBd Evans to Auburn today. Auburn is recruiting him hard as a top priority. It appears Bama has a few guys ahead of him on their board. ( 4* WR JJ Evans 6-2/185 AL hudl )
