Bama 4-star TE commit Caden Clark looking forward to spring visit (247 | includes video)

quote:

Akron Hoban won their fourth straight state championship in the state of Ohio last fall and expectations will be high once again for the coming season with several of their top players returning.

Four-star tight end Caden Clark was a key contributor as a freshman and has gotten better each year to where he is now ranked as the No. 8 tight end in the country by the 247Sports Composite.

Clark, 6-foot-4, 248-pounds, will be counted on as much for his leadership as for his play on the field this season as Hoban looks to win their fifth straight state title, and he is up for the challenge.

"We are working hard in the weight room three days per week and I'm trying to be first in every drill, to set an example for our younger guys," Clark stated. "For myself, I'm working on explosion and some balance work on the off days. I weigh right around 250 right now, and I think that's a good weight for me."

Clark committed to Alabama last summer and has never looked back on that decision. He visited there a few weeks ago and is looking forward to returning for spring practice in March.

"I was there for a junior day a while ago (Jan 26, '19) and that was great," Clark said. "I'll be going back there for spring football and will probably be down there for the spring game. It was my first time being back there since I committed and it was awesome being back."

"It felt more like home being there and everyone was really nice to me and my family," he continued. "They had some coaching changes but my position coach, Jeff Banks, is still there. I love the new coaches and think they're great. My area recruiter will be Coach (Kyle) Flood, and he seems like a great guy."

"I really think a lot of Coach Sark (Offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian) and we were able to sit and talk for about 30 minutes," he noted. "We watched film on Austin Hooper from the Falcons, and he showed me exactly what he's going to do with the tight ends. It was awesome and I loved listening to what he had to say."

Head coach Nick Saban also sat down with Clark and the two of them discussed the expectations that go along with being an Alabama football commit.

"We were together for about 20 minutes and we talked about where I'm at with taking other visits," Clark said. "I told him I was not going to be going to look at any other schools because I'm totally locked in with Alabama."

"To me, there's nowhere else to go when you already have the best," he said. "What else could I want?

2019 SEC recruiting maps: Where each school got its signees (al.com)
quote:

The 2019 recruiting cycle ended earlier this month when SEC schools -- and every other major college program -- secured its latest batch of recruits.

Where did they all come from? Take a look at AL.com's recruiting maps (and be aware junior college players are listed by their hometowns, not where they played their juco football, and rankings are according to the 247 Composite):

Alabama

Alabama signed players from nine different states and the District of Columbia in its 27-member class.

National ranking: 1st

Butch really seems to love the spot he's in. He's making a shitload of money from UT, and has a low pressure job that still lets him interact with players, and apparently just hang out at basketball games and stuff as well.

I think UT has to pay him $200k per month for almost 2 more years. At this rate, he might still be on staff next season.

ETA - We've currently got three former D1 head coaches as analysts. Jones, Stoops, and Applewhite. But I didn't realize that Javier Arenas was also an analyst. Guess I missed that hire somehow. Is this his first season, or was he on staff last year?

I thought the same thing. I hate comparisons with pro players but he looks like Gronk and Gates. He blocks well and can split out wide to create obvious mismatches. I hadnt watched him before but he’s an excellent prospect.

Top Performers: The Opening Orlando Combine (247Sports)
quote:

Gainesville (Fla.) Eastside quarterback Anthony Richardson's show at this weekend's Orlando-based The Opening Regional saw him put up monster testing numbers during Saturday's Combine portion.

The 6-foot-4 222-pound Richardson posted a rating of 122.61, one of the best in combine history right behind record holder Brandon Wimbush and alongside the likes of Justin Fields and Jarrett Guarantano. Richardson's marks included a 4.5 laser-timed 40-yard dash and a 34-1 inch vertical leap.

Ranked by the 247Sports Composite as the nation's No. 13 dual-threat passer, Richardson recently decommitted from Florida and also holds offers from the likes of Boston College, Georgia, Louisville, Penn State, Rutgers, UCF, USF and Virginia Tech. Richardson will return to camp on Sunday looking to earn an invitation to the Elite 11 Finals held this summer. . . (more)

Top performers: Pylon Las Vegas pool play (247Sports | segments)
quote:

MESQUITE, NV – Many of the nation’s top 7-on-7 programs are in the Las Vegas area for this weekend’s Pylon Elite Camps Tournament. Saturday’s pool play was action-packed and 247Sports takes you inside. . .

TOP FIVE OFFENSE

Darnell Washington continued to open eyes and demonstrated his freakish ability. Long and athletic at 6-feet-8, the tight end from Las Vegas (Nev.) Desert Pines was a matchup nightmare for defenders throughout the morning session. He’s nimble for his size and does well to use his size to his advantage in jump-ball situations. Washington is set to visit Georgia next week and recently took a trip to Penn State that left a major impression. . .

MORE EYE CATCHERS

Scottsdale (Ariz.) Saguaro five-star cornerback Kelee Ringo was the most physical defensive back in the event. . .

Sav'ell Smalls, a five-star from Seattle (Wash.) Garfield, had an interception early on and did enough in coverage to show why he is so highly regarded. . .

Who Alabama offered this week (BamaOnLine)
quote:

Alabama has put a number of offers on the table in recent weeks as the new staff members have settled into place and the Crimson Tide can turn its full attention to next year’s recruiting class.

This is typically the case as the calendar turns toward spring. Expect to see more offers continue to go out with top prospects visiting campus and then during the spring evaluation period when coaches can get back out on the road.

This week alone we saw nearly a dozen new Alabama offers go out on the recruiting trail. Here, BamaOnLine gets you caught up on the latest offers from Nick Saban and staff... (more)

Note: Steve Wiltfong CBd Beck to Florida today. He now has 10 CBs, 100% UF.

Alabama trending for The Opening Miami top performer (BamaOnLine)
quote:

Thaiu Jones-Bell

Alabama has certainly found past success in mining Florida for talent at wide receiver. Based on the latest evaluation and reporting surrounding Thaiu Jones-Bell in the class of 2020, the Crimson Tide may have another elite talent onboard this spring.

Jones-Bell was one of the top overall players at last week’s The Opening regional camp in Miami, and we saw five 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions for the Miami Gardens (Fla.) Miami Carol City star receiver to land in Tuscaloosa because of it.

“It seems like Alabama is always dipping into South Florida, so naturally with Jones-Bell, they’re selling him on that Amari Cooper angle,” said recruiting analyst John Garcia on the 247Sports Recruiting Podcast. “He’s another guy who went from South Florida to Alabama, (Calvin) Ridley, Jerry Jeudy, it’s a theme that we see with Alabama down there. Obviously it’s an angle most kids would be pretty happy to hear about.

"He’s going to camp over there in June, not sure if he’ll have a decision in by then. Typically, those are convincing and validating evaluations. … Based on what we saw Sunday, nobody would be shocked if Alabama accepted his early commitment. Miami is in it, a couple other schools are going to make a run at him, but at this point it does seem like it’s Alabama’s race to lose.”

The 5-foot-11, 180-pound receiver earned “Alpha Dog” status for his dominating day against some of the top skill players in the country.

“He was great all day,” said 247Sports national analyst Charles Power. “He really dominated in the 1-on-1s. We didn’t see him lose a rep. It was my first time seeing him in person. I’d watched him on film. He had a really good junior season at Carol City. I think he had 17 touchdowns on 38 catches in 12 games this year.

"I was interested to see what he looked like. … Once the DBs got out there and got live, Jones-Bell just put on a show. He was really impressive with the way he got in and out of his breaks with his routes, a super smooth route runner. … He got open deep. He basically burned every DB he went against with a lot of double moves, really impressive change of direction.”

Both Power and Garcia have Crystal Ball predictions in for Jones-Bell to land at Alabama. Early in the 2020 evaluation process, Jones-Bell is a four-star 247Sports Composite recruit and the No. 65 wide receiver in the country.

Bama among 5-star LB's top schools (BamaOnLine)
quote:

Antoine Sampah

It's an important year for Alabama recruiting the linebacker position both inside and out. The Crimson Tide has already planted itself in the mix for some of the nation's top talent in the class of 2020.

On Sunday, five-star inside linebacker Antoine Sampah announced his top eight schools. Making the cut includes Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, North Carolina, Oregon, Penn State and West Virginia in no particular order.

A product of Woodbridge (Va.) -- the same high school as former Tide standout Da'Shawn Hand -- the Tide has long been high on the nation's No. 2 inside linebacker and vice versa.

Sampah last visited Tuscaloosa for the Mississippi State game in November and plans to return for a two-day visit in the coming weeks for spring practice.

New Alabama outside linebackers coach Sal Sunseri has been a welcome addition to the Tide staff for a number of recruitments, Sampah's included.

The 247Sports Crystal Ball favors Clemson at this point, but you could make the case that Alabama is also in strong position with the efforts the staff has already put in for the 6-foot-2.5, 220-pounder.

The next round of spring visits could go a long way in deciding where Sampah ends up, a decision that could come as soon as late spring or early summer.

Sampah is rated the No. 19 overall player in the country, per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Rankings.
