Really liked what I saw out of Falkins in the game and warm ups. Smooth route runner and really snatches the ball out of the air. Would've liked to have seen us target him in the redzone

I couldn't figure that out Sarc at the end why not let him go up and catch it and instead Morris tried to gun it to Chris Black twice

He is gonna be a good'un

He wasn't an EE. Spent most of the season running the scout team in practice

Chris Black is going to be good. Is he 100% healthy?

He's been 100% for a while now. Looks like Jones and Black will spit the slot WR snaps pretty evenly

its hard not to be encouraged by what i saw today. Sure, there was some sloppy QB play, but we know what we have in AJ. The Oline looked really good, as did the DL (looked to be getting alot of push) and the secondary. Belue was very impressive, and we are stacked at safety. Those were the major questions. We are majorly depleted at linebacker, but assuming everybody we have makes it back in time for fall, that unit will be extremely solid as well. And mandell is BOOMING those punts. I think we are going to be a very well rounded team next year with lots of strengths and very few weaknesses. An injury to AJ would be disastrous, as nobody behind him seems to have quite put it together.

I think this will be a another 12 or 13 win team. But I'm absolutely worried about QB in 2014. If Bateman isn't getting more snaps than McLeod or Del Rio and Morris isn't pushing Sims, we're screwed. I hope we land David Cornwell and he's as good as advertised.

There's a reason why Saban loaded up on running backs in the last recruiting class. I'll be very surprised if the 2014 Bama offense doesn't bear a striking resemblance to the offenses in 2008 and 2009. They're going to run the ball relentlessly and the short passing game will be featured heavily in next year's offense. It'll be boring to watch but it'll be effective.

We're still gonna be stacked with targets for whoever the QB is, so that should help him. KB7 and KN will be gone after this year, but I don't think anyone who can leave early will.

Comments from Saban

quote:

"I spoke to a bunch of different alumni groups today and they all want me to make a comparison between this year's team and last year's team and the team before that and the team before that," Saban said after the A-Day game. "I wasn't happy with any of those teams at this point.

quote:

"If I was happy with them, we wouldn't have summer conditioning, we would not have fall camp, we wouldn't have 30 practices to get ready for our first game against Virginia Tech. We'd just pack it in and say, 'All right, let's go to Atlanta and play the game.' We're not there yet."

quote:

"The biggest thing that I was concerned about is how would the team go out there," he said. "What would be their energy, their enthusiasm and their attention to detail. Mental intensity. I don't think that there were enough guys that answered that question in a positive way to my liking. But I'm never satisfied."

He had 2 passes, why do some say he was terrible? That lone completion was a great sideline throw.

quote:

Cooper Bateman

1/3 (33.33%) for 3 yards (1.0 yards per attempt), 0 TDs, 2 INTs, Passer Rating -91.6

I've seen him him get a pass because he didn't get a lot of time, yet he had more passing attempts than McLeod and worse stats.

Simple, we liked Cooper before the game and he didn't get enough time to prove us wrong. We DIDN'T like McLeod (he and Ely would be better off elsewhere, in my opinion, doesn't fit our mold) before the game, and he didn't get enough time to prove us wrong.

Why was Bateman liked before the game? It's rhetorical because I know it's due to ranking.

What was simple is Bateman was the worst looking QB out there, out of 7. Making generalizations off limited time is no different that the things people attempt to take away from these glorified scrimmages.

McLeod was the only QB of the freshman 3 to throw a TD in the first 2 scrimmages, so I'm not sure what he's done to not be liked and/or a bad fit for the system.

None of the 3 are riveting QB prospects...

None of the 3 new QBs looked particularly good but none played enough to really make much of a determination either. I do think the fact that Cooper entered the game 1st and I believe played the most snaps is an indication that he may currently be in front of the other 2

And I have no problems with those being facts.

But I'm not on board with Bateman getting a break because "he's liked better", while McLeod doesn't because he's not. Neither did anything impressionable, and yet they are individualized in their performances.

Non of the three true freshmen really showed anything. I expect they'll redshirt and then we'll see separation among them next spring. I fully expect one of the older backups to leave after this spring.
